Laleh has released her new EP "Vatten". As you see below she is not only a songwriter and artist but PRODUCER of her own songs! According to her Spotify she was the first Woman to win a Grammis as a producer in 2005 (then repeated that success in 2016). She is now working both with producing others as well as her own artist project. I want to lift her incredible talent as a producer, to song after song find interesting new sounds to use as a foundation for her productions, everything from children's voices to interesting percussion. There is no doubt that she has the ability to create rhythms and beats that just makes us want to sing along in their catchiness. At the same time she continues to be brave and tries out new beats and production styles. Sometimes she also explore more simplistic strings arrangements with beautiful vocal arrangements which is so soothing which lets the lyrics shine. We need more role models as Laleh!
In this blog I will each week feature a producer's music, with the only demand that she is also female or non-binary each week. To be a part of closing the gender gap, empower other non-male producers (since that norm is so strong, that many of the musicians and artists I speak with online assumes that I am male). I want to be a part of changing this gender skewness of the producer role and perception of who can become and learn to be a producer.
Since this is my blog I am going to start featuring my own project (Following weeks I am going to lift others that are female and music creators, then you can actively choose those songs for videos, background-music etc). This can be a simple but active part of working for equality. Why is it important? it is a statement, not only in this business but in all business where non-equality is present.
With the Break Free Album I wanted to encourage other woman to live their life exactly as they want to, break free from negative contexts no matter if its about a destructive relationship, a job or a town. I also wanted to say keep fighting for what you believe in even if you might have negative thoughts of yourself, doubting yourself or feeling low. Keep doing what makes you happy and what you think is good for YOU <3
Hi and Welcome to this new Music Site!
Womanizer RCRDS is a blogg about music created by women. The writer is producer running a production and mixing/mastring company. In 2020 there is still 0,5 percent women in the role as music producers in the top charts in the world. 1 of 200 top songs in the charts is produced by women, which make it one of the most unequal professions in the world!
When I release music as a producer people in submitting sites always assume that I am male. When I'm pitching songs as a producer, people are assuming that I'm male. In writing sessions I'm sometimes expected to sing or to top-lining (writing melodies and lyrics). Producers that are males often have other producer male friends that they present to their contacts and bring to their studios where there often is a culture of men only in the producer chair. This overall structures of assumptions and stereotyped gender roles in the music business makes it harder for producers that are also woman to really build a business of productions. Let's be honest, you don't really neither record or produce music with your private parts. There is no logic in the 0,5 percent that really highly succeed as producers are also one gender only.
To counteract this and inspire more woman to become producers and mix/master engineers I will post and highlight new and upcoming music from established and new artists. There is Only one Demand - It has to be produced by a person that is NOT identifying themselves as males.
Together we can contribute by something as simple as listening to, acknowledge and pay attention to support female producers!
Please contact me at: [email protected] for submissions if you have produced some good stuff or you have a favorite producer that also is female or non-binary you want me to support and publish here!
