So for the first day off I went for a TAB round the Pentlands Hills and it was really enjoyable. Covered about 10kms carrying 10.5kgs over some interesting terrain. Snow managed to cover quite a bit of the high features but the low lying ground was still good underfoot and the going was good.

The weather was cold but fresh and the air made some of the features interesting to climb as your lungs were tested.

The most impotant thing when hiking around in temperatures and features like this is to make sure you have safety equipment and that you have the right stuff in your Bergen or pack incase the worst happens.

I always carry my RAB Alpine Microlight jacket in my pack as it’s small enough to carry anywhere and can make you warm really quickly. It a totally amazing but if kit and I have it where ever I go.

After some well deserved time off we are back on he Ranges and honing skills on the Pistol Ranges. Using the new Glock Pistols, the lads are able to become more confident and competent in using the weapons.

Using the Ranges to the full capacity, using the SA 80 A2 rifle and getting more time on the Ranges means that the lads are becoming more confident and their skills are increasing with more people getting first time pass’s on Annual Combat Marksmanship Tests (ACMTs)

Amazing view on the ranges this week. Watching the sunrise cresting from behind the targets it’s truly marvellous.

Taking their positions on the point in preparations of the targets and the range commencing.

Assuming their positions in the fire trenches before commencing firing the LMG’s. The range was set up for the ACMT and the first time passes were much better than the last time we were in the same ranges.

As the clouds closed in and we prepared for a downpour the targets still kept on coming and the targets got a little darker but still kept on dropping.

Being able to just walk along the beach let to the ability to discover and explore, this was a huge benefit. Exploring was walking many miles along the coast, some days further than others, exploring things and areas which many of the other visitors to the hotel may not have seen. It was easy to navigate along the beach and we were able to pass many other hotels as the beach is a public access allowing us to be able to explore areas which from the road had no access.

On arriving at the hotel, then walking out the back towards the beach we were greeted with an amazing scene of the beautiful vista which lay before us. The idyllic pathway leading to a very clean and picturesque beach lead us into the belief that it was going to be a very memorable holiday. We were able to enjoy many hours lying on the beach in the nice warm sun overlooking a very picturesque sea. When we were too warm and decided to go and double in the water we were fortunate in that it was nice and clear and just what you would expect in the Caribbean.

On the odd occasion that it would rain, the rain seem to be equally as warm as the day had been and therefore even whilst walking in the rain it was not uncomfortable or cold. It was perfect to be able to sit in the bar with a cocktail in hand and watch as the heavens opened whilst sitting under cover and listen to the rain splashing on the pool or surrounds. It was very hypnotic and very relaxing.

The hotel grounds were perfectly manicured and very well maintained by the hotel staff. If there was any rubbish or debris blowing about it was quickly culminated and taken away leaving no evidence of anything but perfection in the surrounding grounds. It was nice to see that most of the plants and trees had the names of their base which meant that we were able to understand and learn about the new plants and fauna in the country which were in. This was Mirrored in the restaurants that we ate at, as they were immaculately clean and the food well presented. Given half the chance I would go back in a heartbeat!

So this past week saw all of us from the Company take to the range and enjoy a full week of a variety of shooting packages. Excellent way to hone the primary skills required and even the weather, for the first time played along, and we only had a few drops of rain the first day but that was it for the whole week.

It was a really enjoyable week and everyone learnt a new skill or were able to develop each other and this was an excellent way to develop team bonding.
