Just this morning as I was scrolling through Instagram I came across a post that a girl named Courtney shared (you can find her blog here - click! ) with this question: if you had to choose one word to describe your year (thus far), what would it be? First off, how is it already time to be asking these kinds of questions again? Haha. Time really is the weirdest thing in the world. How something can feel so distant yet like yesterday all at the same time. Boggles my mind every time. Oh well, let's go back to the question! It really got me thinking. I couldn't answer right away because it didn't really come to me that quickly, but I decided then and there that I would give it some more thought and post my answer here on the blog. It took some looking back and thinking through what this year has been for me, and then the word waiting came to me. There are lots of reasons why my word of the year that has been is waiting. It is a little melancholic, yet it reminds me of both the good and the bad of this year, it reminds me of lessons I have learned in patience, in faith and growth. It is a word that almost stands out as a theme of the year that has been now when I am looking back at it all.
Some of the reasons are a little too personal to share, mostly because they involve other people and I wouldn't want to mistreat anyone else's trust by sharing it, but then there are other reasons for choosing this word as well. To begin with, both Jakob and I waited for many months during both last and this year before we knew that Jakob's job would take us back to Sweden in May. In some ways we are still waiting to see where life here in Stockholm takes us, educationally for me and also on a personal level (not location-wise though; we're planning on staying here in Stockholm for a good while). However, I am very glad that it's not a passive kind of waiting, it's not like standing in line or waiting for the weather to change where nothing you do makes the waiting any more productive. Rather it's an active kind of waiting where we both are working hard and creating better habits and making lots of good memories in the midst of it all - but in some ways we are waiting nonetheless.
I would love to hear your answers to the question!
