10. Black sand beach, Vieques/PUERTO RICO
The black sand beach isn't all that impressive, but its BLACK SAND! So, naturally I found that exciting and it was a cool experience! It wasn't only black, it was actually magnetic, so it got stuck on my iPhone! The beach is a short drive from the ferry, but you have to go through a jungle with wild horses and other wild animals to get there.. at least we had to! haha
9. Copacabana beach, Rio de Janeiro/BRASIL
Ahh, the famous Copacabana beach, mentioned in songs, movies books and more! ill have to admit, my expectations were super high, so I got a little disappointed - You have to remember that I've seen a couple of beautiful beaches in my life, so I have high beachstandards - haha. The beach was big and beautiful, and the views were stunning, but the water was filthy, so we couldn't cool down. I also got a terrible sunburn, SO beach tip numero uno "always bring spf 60" especially when its summer in Brasil (50°C)
8. Ipanema beach, Rio de Janeiro/BRASIL
Just a ten minute walk from Copacabana you will find Ipanema beach! It was just as beautiful as Copacabana, and here, the water was clear, and we could go for a swim! You can also se the beautiful Morro Dois Irmãos while lying on the beach, drinking a coconut.. or a beer.
7. Gili Meno beach - Gili Islands/ LOBOK
Well, I don't actually know if the beach is named Gili meno beach, but its the beach at the southeast side of Gili meno with a view over to Gili Trawangan, Mount Agung and the sunset. Its white sand and clear water - and its a super place for snorkeling as well. Actually, right outside the beach in the ocean, you can spot a beautiful statue of people holding each other.
6. Sun Bay - Vieques/PUERTO RICO
Blue still water, white sand, coconuts, palms and horses actually!
The beach is located a couple of minutes from the ferry, you don't need to rent a bike or a car, its a small island and everyone is super friendly so just ask anyone for a ride.. worst case, take a taxi. Its also a camping site near the beach so just bring a tent, mosquito spray, water and SPF - and boom you got yourself a place to stay!
5. Playa Norte - Isla Mujeres/MEXICO
Im not sure I've ever seen this clear water before, and the beach was so white it almost blinded me!(not even kidding)
That day we were actually snorkeling with whale sharks and stingrays. So other than admiring the crystal-clear blue sea and snow white beach, snorkeling and/or renting a boat is the perfect activities when you visit this island.
4. Playa Navio - Vieques/PUERTO RICO
This is the third time I mention Vieques, and with good reason! You see, just outside Puerto Rico you have the "Spanish Virgin Islands" Vieques and Culebra with the most beautiful and hidden beaches. You really have to make an effort to find some of them. We got up early one morning, started walking to the main road and we hitchhiked all the way to the end of sun bay, that was the furthest the truck could go. But at the same time we arrived, two gentlemen on scooters asked us for the directions to Playa Navio, so we got a ride with them! Perfect timing.. as always!
Ahh, the beach was amazing! Crystal clear water, white sand, cliffs, sun and no-one else at the beach! Remember to bring food and water to the beach, there are no houses or stores nearby!
3. Playa Flamenco - Culebra/PUERTO RICO
When you arrive at the island, there is a golf-car there ready to take you to the beach. The beach is beautiful, very few people, white sand and palms. There is also a tank there (of all things to put on a beach?) , that looks awesome in pictures! Its quiet, the sun is hot and the water is calm. If you get thirsty or hungry there´s a little beach bar nearby! Its also possible to stay there for a couple of days, but its a small and popular island, so book your stay in advance.
2. Praia Lopez Mendes - Ilha Grande/BRASIL
Absolutely gorgeous! - and if you are lucky and show up early, you'll have the entire beach for yourself! Its located a couple of hours from Rio de Janeiro on an island called Ilha Grande. If you ever go to Rio, this island is a MUST VISIT, so make sure you plan a 3-4 days stay in this beautiful and romantic island. There is also many other activities to do there, like hiking, paddle boarding and snorkeling!
1. Playa Paraiso - Tulum/MEXICO
My love for Mexico will never end, and Tulum is one of the reasons! A beautiful place with impressive mayan temples and white beaches! My plan B(each) is to open a bar here some day and wake up to this every morning. The beach is located a short walk from the mayan temples, so its a perfect opportunity to get both history and beach at the same time. Its possible to get at drink at the bar, get a massage by the beach or just lay down and relax in the "beachbeds". Its also a very popular beach, so don't expect to be alone, unless you get there early in the morning. (and yes, the sand is actually this white.
ps: Sorry for my bad English and poor quality on some of the pics
