Last year I wrote a post about the New year, why this is the time of the year that we tend to be the most hopeful, and the consequences of setting unrealistic expectations/goals. Read it here (in Norwegian). But, as we all know, life is unpredictable and we are never really aware of what is coming next. So, this year, I´ll be sharing with you some simple thoughts on how we can reset and refresh (mentally) for 2019.
♥ Get to know yourself. Nobody knows your body better than you. There are tons of articles that outline basic principles on how we can stay positive, inspired, and stress less on a daily basis. But, there are no "best practices". We need to create our own personal rituals and routines. Why not start the new year by writing yourself a letter, including dreams and goals for the coming year. What do you want in life, and what can you do this year that your future self will thank you for? What are your worries, and what are you grateful for?
♥ Switch-off and exercise your brain. Make it a rule to turn off your laptop/phone at a given hour of the day. We spend way too many hours on a screen (guilty), and more importantly it´s about taking care of our physical health. I have already experienced issues with my neck, posture, and upper body - all because of the modern lifestyle. Take time to refresh your mind and fuel your creativity. We are all creative, some more than others. Switch off and exercise your brain, creativity strikes when we least expect it.
♥ Last but not least, we need to stop worrying about what other people think - Perhaps the most difficult one. One of my new year´s resolution was to care less: I created a sweet escape (peachybeige), and became serious about stepping up my content/SoMe game. I put myself out there (obviously with the fear of being rejected), and did what I love the most: write and share the human experience. Not worrying about what people think, allows us to do amazing things. It´s only when we stop limiting ourselves with destructive beliefs, that we unleash our potential.
Happy New Year!
