I am ready for YouTube

Time really flies by, and it's already been a month or so since I made this YouTube-video. Occasionally I have been able to upload some gameplay videos, lastly named the Diddy Kong Racing series. I am about to complete that game, but at the moment I am having some issues with the streaming program and/or the way the screen is recorded. I promise that I am doing all that I can and know to fix it as soon as possible.

But let me say this, I am more than ready for YouTube, it is just that I need to figure out how to get a routine out of it. And I need to be a lot more effective when it comes to the editing part. Future plans are to watch tutorials and just practice a lot. Also, I need to be more focused on creating content rather than being too focused on a sharp image and crisp sound. So yeah, that is also something I am working on improving. #GOALS

Meanwhile, watch this Channel trailer!

Content creation planning and bad timing

I am having a creative brainstorming inside my head at the moment, and from that, I've made a long document with a lot of ideas. Some of them are already ready to be made, but there are two things that are stopping me. School and Monster Hunter World. The first is obviously a very good reason, the second, not so much. But I have become totally addicted to that game, time just flies whenever I play it. I will write a separate blog post about that game, and probably even make a video out of it. So already there we have some content for the YouTube channel, stay tuned folks! And sorry for updating so slowly, I will get better, believe it!

Anyways, it's way too late at the moment, I just handed in my assignment online, and now I need to go to bed in order to wake up in a few hours. See ya!

Color is the keyword for the week

Another week is soon over, it has been a hectic one, as we have had assignments due almost every day. And today is no exception, here are some photos from my colour assignment, it is a part of the Digital Portfolio course. The clue here was to see the differences between a photo in colour and the same photo in black and white. I decided to go for stuffed toys, that was the first thing that came to mind when thinking about colours.

On the other hand, I have never thought of something as absurd as a black and white toy. Except for zebras and horses.

Studio and light lessons

During this week I have also had the opportunity to enter the photo studio, a place where I really don't feel comfortable at all, yet. Hopefully, I will get a better understanding of it all soon, that's one of my many reasons for having started at this school after all. Tomorrow is another course about light, and at the very moment, I am trying to complete my assignment. In other words, that is the reason why this post became so short. Will do a better job at updating from now on!

So we finish up this week with some light

Light, camera and action. It is weekend soon and it is about time for a little vacation of the cold type. But first, we will have some more lessons regarding the use of light in a studio. Today we have a half-day at school with light tutoring, heading back to the studio to deliver our assignments and get a feedback.

Feeling like an okay student

At the moment I have already been more than one week at school, and boy this is some intense stuff. You will never actually catch up since everytime we get a task finished, a new one shows up. It is probably a work-style like this that suits me best since I work best under pressure. So yeah, at the moment I feel like an okay student, I have not got it all yet, so I lack a little behind. I am a little worried about the coming weekend though since I will have this little winter vacation, and not too sure if I will manage to catch up, or ending up with way too much to do on Monday. We will see I guess.

Ready for the weekend

Anyways, you've got to live as well. The plan for the weekend is to leave the city behind, and then go all the way to the mountain for some skiing. No, actually this time around it is snowboarding. Something I have only tried once before, not with the greatest results back then, to be short, I got a concussion, haha. So I will do this as a comeback, to see how snowboarding will go this time around. I hope I will survive at least, and that's my only goal so far. I will also bring my skis as a backup if snowboarding does not go too well. I also do want to have fun. Falling every meter might not be too much fun you know, haha.

Anyways, I am ready for the weekend now, so have a good one!

A little blog update

Here's a little blog update that isn't related to school, but rather the blog itself. I feel I need to explain a few things, like the total makeover and the language switch. Since this blog used to be written in Norwegian, my native language. And also this post is for some more details.

It is quite important to find a style you like for your website, but there are a plethora of options to choose from. I have had countless blog designs during the last years, but none have felt so perfect as this one. This is the Gridspace blog theme from Graphpaperpress. It is some kind of photo portfolio theme, and that is exactly what I wanted for this blog/website now. Since I aim to make it look professional, but yet I want to keep the blog part quite personal. There is a story I want to tell as well, and I get this job done so well with this theme.

I have been using Wordpress for quite a while, and have been self-taught for the most of the time. There are so many possibilities with Wordpress and the different themes you can choose. I use this one in Tandem with blogg.no, so it might be that you are viewing this post from http://owlando.blogg.no. If so then I would recommend having a look at my website here at www.owlando.com.

About the language switch

Ever since I began publishing anything at all on the internet, I have always had this kind of trouble of choosing which audience I want to target. Norwegians or Internationals? I have had an English blog before, but I changed it since I felt that I lacked the vocabulary to express myself properly. Of course, it is a lot easier to express oneself in the native language, so that is why I went for Norwegian. But on the other hand, I have many friends from abroad, and also I want my site to be available for everyone. Also, I know that most Norwegians are quite capable of reading and talking English. And since everything else I do is in English, then I thought I'd just make it universal, so I hope that is okay with whoever reads this. But again, I added a translate option in the sidebar menu, so if you want it to be Norwegian, then you can always use that option. It ain't perfect, but it is good enough.

YouTube updates?

Oh, and the last part, regarding YouTube, no I have not quitted already. My channel is fresh and the only reason for the lack of content there lately obviously is because of school. I haven't got into the routine yet, but I will get there, and when I do there will be more updates coming as soon as possible. The vlog part will also transition into English since all my other videos are in English. I have to finish up my Diddy Kong Racing series, to tackle the Spaceport Alpha stages, and to beat Wizpig one last time.

After that, I plan to do some more retro games from the Nintendo 64 era, I am not quite sure which one yet, but it might be Super Mario 64 or the Snowboard Kids game. I just need some time to get on schedule with my school assignments and this new student life.

If you haven't checked it out yet, please visit my YouTube channel here. Or here.

That's if for this blog update, stay tuned with me as I make a routine out of my life!

New week and new assignments

Hoy, here we are in yet another week, I am ready for a new week of school and new things to learn. Today's class was all about photo history and communication with the use of photos. Oh before you ask, the featured image and the pictures I use in posts sometimes have no relevance to the post topic. It is just that I did not have any suiting photos at that very moment.

We went through a bit of the history of the camera, and also some famous old-time photographers. It was quite interesting, but I have to admit I really wanted that morning coffee today. I am not too good at history lectures, honestly, also it does not help much that they usually are in a dark classroom lit only by the projector showing pictures on the chalkboard.

And yeah I did not get my coffee, the machine was under maintenance, and it was not fixed during our break so I went with water. Luckily the sleepiness kept away for the entire lesson, and we got to see some really inspiring photos, and for good reason. Because this week's first assignment came at the end of the lesson, and it was all about the classic photos. The assignment is as following: Find two pictures from the old times. Two pictures that inspire you, and then re-create or make your own version of these two images. So in total, four images, two originals, and two that you make yourself. Also, including the photographer that inspired you.

The assignments are piling up

Now at the current time, I have three assignments that will all have to be done during this week. I am partly done with one of them at least. I went to the gym on Sunday with my friend and another friend of him. We got some cool shots, and I just need to sort out which one I will use for my portrait photos. That is what I will do tonight, and once that is done I will have to do some reading. And I also have to crawl the web for some photos to inspire me. And find my own creative way of recreating those. It looks like it will be quite a busy week, and this coming weekend I will go to the mountain for some proper skiing. I am really looking forward to that!

The second day at school and we talk about light

One part of photography that I never quite got the hang of was the part of lighting. I know some of the exposure and all that, but I was never good with the placement of light and/or how to make my subjects well lit. I usually photograph in nature so the sun is basically the one and only lamp I have. And that has been both good and bad, so now it is finally time to learn some more about the art of light.

We began our first lesson with a very good sentence from the teacher, he said that once we enter the studio room. It is completely black, there is nothing, and in this room we are Gods. We create in this room, we bring the light, we bring the subject, and arrange things as we like. When we leave the room, we have created something. I really liked this way to think, and I also highly agree with the teacher.

My feelings about studio photography

Honestly, I have never like studio photography, it might be partly because I do not know how to work within a studio, and also partly because I do not find it to be natural. If you bring a person into a photo studio, it is for the sole purpose of being photographed. I must admit I prefer the natural circumstances when people act natural or are in a natural environment.

But hey, I really admire a lot of photos that I have seen that are taken within a studio. So I am pretty sure that my feelings will change once I get the hang of it. And to be honest, I have not had the opportunity to work in a studio more than once or twice during my life, so it is no wonder why I do not have a special liking to it. I bet that this will all change, today was the first lesson and I thought it was really interesting. We learned a lot already about lamps, and how light works. The lessons here are really good, but we also get a lot to do right from the get-go.

And of course, an assignment was given at the end of the class. The assignment for this course was to take two pictures where light has clearly been manipulating the surroundings. For example when the light is reflected, broken up or diffused by going through a transparent material. I honestly do not know what to do here yet, but I am working on it.

The plan B became my solution

And the other task from the previous day, I found out that I would like to do the #hardwork series instead. So I got in touch with my friend and we arranged a meeting at the gym this coming weekend. So I will hopefully be able to get the pictures I need for that assignments during the weekend. I do not know if any of those will be posted here on my page, I will have to ask the models later. I look forward to having my first photoshoot. Stay tuned owlets!

Ready for school

Today it began, my first day of school, since like two years ago. It was a bit strange to be back again, not that I have been on that particular school before, but you probably know what I mean. I am talking about the way you start working, and then suddenly you go back to school. Today was the first proper day of school, yesterday was the registration and the get to know each other part. It was quite a small class, just about ten people, but I enjoy that, that means the teacher gets more time with each one of us. I prefer smaller classes any day!

A lot is going to happen

We got an assignment on the very first day, that is kind of a good sign, effective working. It is a bit unusual to me though, but I like this. Seems like we will get multiple tasks each week, and that makes us really actively searching for different kinds of images. I hope this really makes my creative spark wake up again since I have been missing that one for a while.

Also, I am a person who works best under pressure and stress, long time limits aren't my best friend. It usually ends up like this: We get one month to do something, I start slowly, and most of my work comes when there are only 3-4 days left before the deadline. RedBull and a couple of long working nights usually get me into the finish line with a result I enjoy. My creativity does not start until it is really important it seems. Hopefully, this changes though.

The first assignment is to take a few portrait photos, the extra addition is that they should be in the same kind of mood and feeling. Also, they should go together in a series, so they ought to look kind of similar, or at least follow that red thread. At the moment I have some few ideas in my head already, I think I will ask my Colombian friends for some portraits at our monthly coffee meeting. Then my setting will be cafe life, and also a bit of heritage too since I am a Colombian as well.

Alternatives and plan B's

Of course, it is important to not bet everything on one card, I have a bad experience with those kinds of things. So I have some second ideas in my head already too, I learned early in the graphic design studies that you often had to kill your darling. The darling being your first idea or the one you love the most. An idea you often get too attached too and makes your focus too narrow, so that you miss a lot of other ideas.

So my plan B is #hardwork and that is supposed to be a series of photos of people at the gym. People who exercise a lot, who put all their efforts in strengthening their bodies. I do not know how I'll do this but I have a friend who is a prime example of this category so I will ask him if he could help me. But yeah that is my plan B at the moment, so we will see how it works out. Follow me on my adventures at Bilder Nordic School of Photography!

Yet again I return to school for some more wisdom

I have always wanted to study photography, or not always, but at least since I was fourteen and that is quite a while ago already. But there have been many reasons for me not to start, the main keywords are economy and risk, as these kinds of school studies are quite expensive. Also, they do not lead to what many would call a safe job. A photographers work situation can be so varied, either you work as a freelancer and live on a month by month salary. Some months you might earn enough but some months you might not earn anything and that kind of does not work in today's society.

So yeah, I aimed for different jobs and kind of tried out a lot of different ways to go. But it all came down to the same thing, I still wanted to do something creative. It has led me all the way to do graphic design, which was really awesome to learn and study. But still, I really wanted to learn more about photography and to actually understand the camera properly, as by now I have just tried and tested what works and what does not. I want to be able to assess the scene and know what to do in order to take a good and well-exposed picture. So that is why I am starting as a student at Bilder Nordic School of Photography, a long name indeed so I'll shorten it to BNSOP instead. Makes it a lot easier.

Aims and goals

Well, I do not have a specific goal in mind by doing this except getting somewhat pro on using my camera, which again I hope will lead to a good job within the creative business. I already have graphic design, some video and IT skills on my resume so I hope having a proper photo education will help me in landing that perfect dream job that I've been wanting for so long. I love photography, videography, design and travelling, and I hope to one day mix them together and make a living out of it. This might really help that ambition.

We will see where this goes, as of tomorrow I will be a student again, ready to learn and follow my path, the path of a photographer. Feel free to follow me along the way, basically what I am saying is, follow my blog here to see where the road leads. Hopefully, now I am done with the rebooting of the page, to be honest, I am really happy with how it looks now.

Back again with a new blog look

My OCD got the best of me again, so yet again we begin this blog anew. A blank canvas, new pens, a cheer for new beginnings and all that. There is quite a good reason for the reboot this time around, not just a random choice which it usually has been. I am going to aim this page more leaning towards a portfolio and professional page, except the blog part, that part will still be quite personally unprofessional. And that is the way it should be, or else there would be no blog posts to come. I will of course also feature articles and information regarding the topics of photography, videography, and graphic design frequently, these posts will be more professionally tailored than the usual "hey this is what I ate today" posts. But do not worry, I will make some good use of the category system so that you can choose whatever you'd like to read with relative ease.

A new journey is about to begin

Besides the fact that I just mentioned my reasons for beginning anew, there is one reason left to mention. I am going back to school again, and I also want this blog to follow my life as a student again. It's already been two years since I left school in Australia but I am ready for new challenges to come. I will write more about that in a separate post to come, meanwhile, I will work on filling up this page with meaningful links and pictures. So stay tuned for the updates!

Oh yeah, I switched to English again, since I think it is more universal. I have friends from all around the world and I would like for them to be able to easily read if they want. Also for the non-English speaking Norwegians, I have included a translate option in the sidebar of my page. It ain't a 100 percent correct, but enough to make you understand, so make use of it if you want, it is there for you! This goes for Italians, Spanish, French, and German people as well, I've got you covered.

Well, that's good enough for a beginner post, so let's get started on this journey now!
Welcome to www.owlando.com.
