Affordable Family Friendly Activities You May Not Think OfAffordable Family Friendly Activities You May Not Think Of

Everyone loves to spend quality time with their family, whether it be at the weekend, in the evenings or on lazy Sunday afternoons. But there’s only so many family barbecues and movie nights you can have, right?

So you start brainstorming about other things you could do. You could go on a hike locally, or go for a bike ride and have a lovely picnic somewhere along the way. But what about something abit more adventurous? You don’t have to break the bank to do exciting activities; there are actually a lot of affordable, family friendly activities out there - you just have to know where to look.

You could go climbing for next to nothing, go karting for as much as you’d probably spend on the food for one of those family barbecues - even exciting outings like paintballing aren’t actually that high up in terms of expense. But one of our favourite affordable family friendly activities has to be rafting.

Rafting in Colorado

Rafting has it all; it’s an adventure sport with plenty of opportunities for excitement, but it can also be tailored to your expertise level and can absolutely be family friendly. You might be picturing people careering around in frothy white rapids, looking like they’re about to drown or knock themselves out on a rock at any second - but don’t worry, that;s just for the experts. You can have just as much fun floating down a tranquil, shallow river with an experienced instructor and you’ll make memories for life.

So where is the best place for rafting in Colorado?

There are many amazing river rafting spots to be found throughout the USA, but it’s hard to boost colorado out of the top spot. Already a popular destination for outdoor activities like hiking, trail running and climbing, it also has some of the best spots in the country for rafting.

And there are so many companies that are dedicated to offering you an unforgettable family experience - you can enjoy an amazing day Arkansas River rafting that will stay with you and your family for always. Just make sure you’re prepared for a bit of excitement and you don’t mind getting wet!

You should also decide beforehand what it is you want to do with the rest of your day, because you can book anything from a quarter to a full day trip, and you should think through how much activity you want to commit to in one day.

So there you have it - if you’ve been struggling to come up with any engaging family activities lately, why not give rafting a whirl. It’s exhilarating, family friendly - and definitely memorable.

Climbing

Going climbing is another exciting way to enjoy an activity with your family - and as well as being affordable, it’s actually a very versatile activity and you have a lot of options.

If you live somewhere with a lot of outdoor climbing opportunities, like Nevada or California, then all to the good - but you can also access a climbing centre or five in any big city and most towns.

You can spend a day bouldering with crash mats underneath for added safety and learn the ropes of high climbing without ever having to leave your hometown, saving on travel costs while still providing an exciting and unusual family activity for you all to enjoy.

What’s more - most climbing centres are attached to a pretty decent on-site cafe or restaurant at reasonable rates, so you can safely budget for food too without worrying about finding somewhere to go and eat.

Paintballing

To be clear, when we say paintballing is an affordable family activity we’re not saying developing a paintball habit as a family will be a low cost endeavour. If you really get into paintballing and decide you want to invest in a membership and some more upmarket gear, then it can quickly turn into quite a pricey hobby.

However if you just want to enjoy a fun afternoon with your family at your local paintballing range, it will only cost you between $30 and $60 for a whole lot of fun. This is an adrenaline and competition filled activity perfect for family bonding and a fantastic way to spend a saturday afternoon together.

So there you have it - if you’ve been thinking lately that your family quality time could do with a bit of a turbo charge, some low cost exciting activities you can enjoy together may well be the solution you’ve been looking for.
