5 tricks for making this fall your own

#NouwSeptemberChallenge - How do you do to turn this upcoming fall into something positive? Our profile Amanda Aikioniemi challenges all of us today to really make this fall our own and gives us her 5 best tips for doing just that! Lifestyle - 1

1. Find out and practice your hobbies

What do you like to do? Are you a creative person? Do you like to exercise? Find out what your interests are and start to develop them even more. Take the dance class that you have always wanted to take. Watch your favorite TV shows that you have already seen ten times, but still love. Do the workout you have said you should but have yet to start. This is an excellent opportunity to really get started with any of your interests. To have something that keeps you busy can really make the darkness and the fall feel less sad.

2. Appreciate your alone time

This is the hardest point for me. I like to be alone, but not to feel alone. The fall can usually make me feel a bit alone, like the rooms in the apartment are getting smaller and smaller. This point can be a bit hard but at the same time it is something that is necessary for everyone. We need to be better at appreciating our alone time. I bet a lot of people do feel like me, that it is scary to be alone. That you feel scared or forgotten. So we need to try and turn it around to something that benefits you. Alone time is extremely important.

Do a spa at home. Have a glas of wine. Do your favorite dish or eat your favorite sweets. Watch your favorite movie that you have seen ten times already. Write a book. Your time should be spent the way you want to. Do everything that makes you feel good. It does not matter what other people say or think. It is all about you and what makes you happy. If you feel like drinking one or maybe five glasses of wine in front of your favorite TV show, do it. If you feel like doing a manicure in a color you know your friends would hate, do it. It is important that we start to appreciate our own time. It is not about what other people do or say. Everything is about you and it is time for all of us to appreciate ourselves more.

3. Spruce up, up, up (This point is directly taken from Michaela Forni)

Yes, we know. When the rain is pouring we would rather hide out in our kashmir sweaters, hats and rainboots, but we also know that none of us are feeling great doing it? Try to spruce yourself up at least one weekday each week and we promise you that you will feel so much better after it. Put on that pretty blouse, curl your hair and put that colorful lipstick on. By doing that you can trick the body and instantly feel like your are in a better mood. This should of course be done in moderation, the most important part is that you feel comfortable doing it.

4. Examine yourself

I know that "examine" can sound like a tough and difficult word. What I want to get across with this point is that it is time for all of us to try and find out what exactly it is that we want. We often make choices we are not completely certain of, choices that we later on need to face the consequences of. Take the time this fall to really find out what it is you want and go through all the choices you have in front of you. Some will be easier than others. A lot of times you think you know what you want, but more times than not you end up with the same questions; what did I do know? Did I really think this through? Have I done the right thing? What do I really want? Who am I? Take this season to find out the answers. It can be a hard, but you will get through it and feel more calm and more certain of yourself. A reminder, it is all about you and what makes you feel good.

5. Turn off the notifications on your social medias

I started doing this two months ago and wow, I already feel so much calmer. I turned off the notifications on all of my social medias to get rid of the constant stress it always gave me. Some periods of my life I have had a hard time sleeping, and a big reason for this is the stress I felt from my social medias. I no longer get a notification every time I get a knew snap, a new follower on instagram or a new message on messenger. It was tough the first couple of days, but you will get the hang of it pretty soon. Eventually, you will forget to always go in and check the apps. I did not think that this would have such a big impact on my life. Nowadays I sleep extremely well, which is so important.
