      2020 Favourites

      Saturday, 26 December, 2020, 3:41 pm

As 2020 is almost gone I thought I'd share with you my favourite products from this year. I'm pretty sure most of these things weren't released this year but regardless, these were my most loved on products this year. If you want to learn more about any of these products, I have reviews of all on them so feel free to check them out!

      Best in complexion

Glossier Cloud Paint in the shade Beam

When I purchased this blush I wasn't expecting to use it as frequently as I have been. As I've been spending more time indoors I haven't felt as inclined to wear as much base makeup and I found cream products tend to suit that style of makeup a bit better. I would often put some of this blush on before video seminars and meetings. This blush is lovely peachy tone that just brightened my face.

Milk Makeup Bronzer in the shade Baked

This has been my most reached for bronzer this year, it blends out so nicely and gives a lovely sun-kissed look to my skin. Similarly to the Glossier blush, I reached for this a lot of more as I've been wearing less base makeup.

Charlotte Tillbury Hollywood Flawless Filter in the shade 02

This is such a versatile and underrated product. If you want to trick people into thinking you have beautiful, healthy and dewy looking skin this is the product for you. I tend to use this more as a subtle, 'lit from within' highlighter but some people use this as a glowy foundation/primer. Whatever you choose to use it for it works really well.

Nars highlighter in the shade Fort de France

This highlighter is the one I've reached for the most frequently this year. It gives your cheeks a lovely glow without enhancing texture. It's a great all-rounder!

      Best in Eyes

Sweed x Nikki Wolff No Lash-Lash

These lashes are undetectable with tapered, almost mink-like tips. You can really tell that a makeup artist created these, they are so prefect for creating a soft yet glamorous look. If you're a makeup artist or doing bridal makeup these are the ones I'd recommend. They're very easy to apply (although they are quite delicate so be careful removing them from the packaging) and give a lovely effect on the eyes.

Anastasia Beverly Hills x Jackie Aina Palette

If you saw my palette ranking post a few weeks back you won't be surprised this is on the list. I don't think I have ever been as obsessed about a palette before. For me this strikes the balance of being grungy, neutral and colourful while still providing a nice shimmer to matte ratio. I don't think I could ever get rid of this palette as I feel inspired whenever I open it.

      Devinah Cosmetics Eyeshadows

Devinah was a brand I tried this year and I am so impressed with what I've tried from them so far. If you like sparkly magical looking shadows this is definitely a brand to check out.

      Clionadh Cosmetics Stained Glass Eyeshadows

The obsession only continues. I first tried these shadows last year and have since expanded my collection, look out for even more shadows from this collection in future reviews. The quality and colour shifts of these shadows is impeccable and I am such a Clionadh stan at this point.

      Best in lips

      Fenty Gloss Bombs

I am so in love with these glosses! I managed to finish two of these and have almost finished a third. These make your lips look hydrated and glossy while being super comfortable. They also smell like strawberry laces which I love. Definitely a standout formula and there was no question of whether or not they'd end up on this list.

Pat McGrath Lust Gloss in Flesh Fantasy

I managed this gloss! I may have already repurchased this as well... Anyway if you're looking for a boujie lip product I really enjoyed using this gloss and I love the formula. It also has a subtle scent of vanilla which is lovely.

What products were your favourite this year? Thanks for reading, merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

      Makeup products I have repurchased

      Saturday, 4 April, 2020, 1:26 pm

I think we all have some products that we swear by or routinely repurchase that fall into the 'good old trusty' category. I thought I'd share some products that I will probably always have in my collection. Most of these products are at a highstreet/drugstore price point, which is probably one of the reasons I have repurchased so many of them over and over again.

      Times I have repurchased: 10

Starting off with my favourite foundation. This year it was announced that Bourjois would be discontinued the UK and I was so upset because now it'll be harder to get my hands on the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation. (Although it is available in Sweden now!) The finish of this foundation is natural-dewy with a medium coverage but its very easy to sheer out or layer so you can get it slightly more full coverage. This foundation looks so natural on the skin, it can emphasise dryness ever so slightly but I have not ever tried a foundation that doesn't.

The one con of this for me is the fact that it doesn't last as long as I'd like it to. In the first couple of hours it wears beautifully but then my oily skin likes to wear it down. If I am going to an event or anything similar I tend to remove all the makeup I have on my skin and reapply this for this reason.

This is also probably the best shade match I have in my collection. I wear shade 51 Light Vanilla or 53 Light Beige I have a neutral-warm undertone and it can be very hard to find my shade match because of my undertone. (As a side note, what makes it even weirder it when I naturally tan my chest when usually tans more pink and the rest of me tans more golden. Now I exclusively fake tan and stay out of the sun) I am trying to find another foundation with a similar finish and coverage but slightly longer lasting power so if you have any suggestions please let me know. This foundation retails for £9.99 which is so affordable considering how lovely the quality is.

      Times I have repurchased: 10

The Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer was every UK beauty bloggers staple back in the day and I still haven't moved on from it. This has amazing coverage for something so affordable. I can get away with wearing shade 01 without wearing foundation as its a reasonably good match for my skin tone (it leans a bit more pink though). I have gone through so many of these and bought more shades as well depending on my tan. There used to only be 4 shades of this concealer and they have added some more shades to it but it still isn't quite as broad as I'd like but if you can find a shade that suits you it's amazing. This concealer only retails for £4.19 which for a product with so much pigment is a steal.

      Times I have repurchased: 2

The Benefit Boing Concealer is a product I don't use everyday but as someone who struggles on and off with bad skin, it's so useful it is to have concealers that have different textures for spot concealing. Sometimes when my Collection concealer won't cover a problem area I try this and more often than not I'll be able to cover it, and vice versa. I wish I had an explanation for how this works but for me I usually figure it out with trial and error. I think I've bought this product once or twice and every other time I have received it as a gift (thats how I originally got my hands on it). This concealer can also be sheered out nicely so if you like no-makeup-makeup this is one to try out. I wear the shade 01 and this retails for £19.50.

      Times I have repurchased: 15

Again, this is a cult product that many people rave about. The Rimmel Stay Matte powder is a classic setting powder that does what it says on the tin. I always know it can rely on this to set my base and I can reapply this during the day without it getting cakey although I usually don't touch up my makeup throughout the day. I wear the shade Transparent and this powder retails for £3.99.

      Times I have repurchased: 6

This was the first brow product I ever purchased, the Maybelline Brow Drama brow gel really changed my brow game. Those of you who have seen my my post from a couple of months ago where I shared a picture of my brows in 2013, you understand. It was a bad time. Anyway, I haven't strayed away from this product despite knowing a lot of people don't love it because the applicator is quite large. I haven't been wearing this that frequently lately just as during lockdown I've either been wearing very minimal makeup and using soap in my brows or no makeup at all. I would be open to try another brow gel after finishing up the Maybelline one but the price po‎int, £5.99, this can't really be beat. I wear the shade transparent.

      Times I have repurchased: 1

So I have never actually bought a full size of the Benefit Hoola bronzer and its also the only bronzer I have ever used. I don't go through it that quickly because it's quite deep on my skin tone so I don't need a lot to get a bronzed look. I like this product but I think I might purchase a different bronzer when I finish the my current one, I'm considering getting a Fenty Sunstalk'r bronzer or one form Hourglass. The mini Hoola Bronzer retails for £14.50.

      Times I have repurchased: 6

The Urban Decay All-Nighter setting spray is a staple in my makeup routine. It's so good for both setting makeup and taking down the powdery look on my skin after applying makeup. I always stock up on this during sales and I currently have 2 unopened bottles in my collection (not including minis). I find it extends the wear of my makeup nicely and helps my skin from breaking down makeup as quickly. This retails for £26 and tends to last me around 6 months.

      Times I have repurchased: 1

The Urban Decay Primer potion is something I like but I don't necessarily swear by. I have tired the Laroc primer and Wet n Wild one but didn't repurchase either. I like this but after I finish it I might try the Nars Smudgeproof primer, as I've heard good things about that one. I previously used a travel sized version of this but currently use a full size which retails for £19.50.

Thanks for reading and stay safe!

      Eyeshadow Brushes for Hooded Eyes

      Saturday, 22 February, 2020, 7:19 pm

So some of my more regular readers may remember a post from a couple of months ago where I had a picture comparison of how my eyeshadow skills evolved. For some reason its one of my most viewed posts which is so embarrassing. One of the main reasons why the first picture was so bad was because I had like 2 eyeshadow brushes at the time (obviously practice has helped too) and over the years I have collected a fair amount of eye brushes so that I could actually blend my eyeshadow properly.

One 'problem' I have come across when buying brushes is knowing their size. For reference, my eyes are slightly smaller than average and are hooded; I do have visible lid space when staring straight forward but its tiny haha. So when buying brushes, I tend to prefer more precise brush heads but I do some bigger eye brushes which I will get into later. Anyway I digress, here is an overview of my favourite and most used eye brushes in my collection.

      Blending & crease brushes

These two brushes are like a pointed dome shape; the Sigma e45 is a good brush for sketching out the shape of my crease as its quite pointed but still will be able to blend the shadow ever so slightly.

The Zoeva 221 is slightly fluffier than the Sigma e45 so it blends out the product less precisely but still is more precise than your standard crease brush. It gives you control over placement but you can buff and blend more freely.

These two brushes are amazing for blending out shadows. The Sigma e42 is more densely packed so it gives more of a controlled blend, I really like this brush for blending deeper shades in my crease. The Sigma e33 has less densely packed bristles so it is good for blending out the edges of shadows without picking up too much product, so the colour concentration isn't compromised.

These brushes are always the ones I reach for every time I want to wear eyeshadow. They're classic transition and crease brushes with a flatter and wider side depending on how you angle the brush and can even be used to pack colour on the lids. (I would recommend only doing that with matte shadows though, the fluffiness of these brushes can pick up too much of the shimmer particles in non-matte shades which takes away the shimmery-ness of your favourite shades.) These are great all rounder brushes so they're some of the ones I always recommend to people who are getting into eyeshadow for the first time. There are not many differences between these brushes other than that the Sigma e27 is smaller than the Sigma e25, the pros and cons of this is that the e27 will give you ever so slightly more precision but the e25 is more versatile as it is better adapted to blend out larger areas.

The Sigma e38 is a brush that I constantly reach for. this is my go to 'big blending out harsh edges' brush i.e. I use this to diffuse out the edges of my shadow. Its very similar to the Sigma e40 but is slightly smaller and therefor suits my hooded eyes better.

The Zoeva 224 has a similar function for me, although it has less densely packed bristles so it doesn't blend out as far as the Sigma e38.

      Lid Brushes

I use the Morphe M421 and Real Techniques pointed liner brush for cream/liquid products as they're great for precision placement so things like cut creases.

I typically uses my ring finger to apply shimmers or more glittery shades on my lid as I find it works better for me but occasionally when I want more precision I use the Zoeva 237 brush

      Smudge brushes

These two brushes are a great combo for creating a smudged out lower lash shadow. The Smashbox Smudger brush has a precise tip which allows for a lot of precision when blending out shadows on the lower lash line. The Real Techniques smudge brush is larger and more fluffy giving a more blown out look than the Smashbox Precise Smudger brush.

      Liner & detail brushes

One of the most annoying things about having hooded eyes is how difficult doing winged eyeliner is. These two brushes are very useful when trying to create a sharp wing. The Zoeva 317 brush is the sharpest angle brush I own and it the one I always reach for.

The Pro Art Masterstroke miniature brush range are amazing touch-up brushes for liner (and also for concealing!) due to their small size, so they are very versatile.

      Thanks for reading!
