When I first saw this palette I wasn't sure it was for me, although I thought the colour story was great I was worried it would be a bit too deep and colourful for my taste. However the more I saw the palette, the more inspired I felt. This is a palette that I can look at and immediately in my mind pair shadows together to create a look. I was lucky enough to receive this palette as a gift this Christmas and I was so excited to play with it!
I have been subscribed to Jackie Aina for around 2 years now I believe and if you haven't watched any of her content you are missing out, she is so funny and smart and she's great to go to if you want recommendations for oily skin.
She said she created this palette for people with deeper skin tones in mind but I have to say that this palette works for everybody. There is only one shade in this palette that I don't think compliments me (and to be honest its probably more due to my eye colour than my caucasian-ness). The colour story of this palette is so beautiful, its so rich, warm and somehow a bit sexy. It's a nice balance of colour and smokiness (on my skin tone that is) and I will most definitely be reaching for this for date nights or days I want to look a bit sultry and sexy.
Swatches from the Jackie Aina palette
Now I know Jackie has been in some controversies but to be honest I'm not that bothered about them. In the grand scheme of things she is just human and she's not afraid to stand up for herself so I will continue to support her.
I think it's a shame that this palette didn't receive more hype when it launched, this came out a couple of weeks before Anastasia Beverly Hills came out with their Norvina line and the brand kept on releasing eyeshadow palette after eyeshadow palette, I personally feel like Jackie's palette didn't receive the attention it deserved.
Anyway, I thought I would share some looks I created with this palette to show off the versatility of this palette, I also added a description of what shades I used to create these looks. f
For this look I used Ginger in the crease and outer V, then Zamn all over the lid with Soleil in the centre and the inner corner. I should point out that I take photos of my makeup in front of a window, so this may look a bit subdued, but it's far more vibrant in person.
Zamn is unlike any other ABH shadow I have ever used, it looks very glittery when you pick it up but it is smooth like a shimmer shadow but with the reflect of glitter. I would describe it as an 'everyday glitter'. Although this may seem like the most basic shade, it is a standout in this already great palette.
For this look I used Ginger as a transition/crease shade, Credit in the lower crease and outer V, Sponsored on the lid and Trust Issues as an inner corner highlight and a tiny amount on the centre of the lid. Along the lashline I used Ginger and Credit with a bit of Sponsored in the centre. For lashes I used the Ardell Demi Wispies and L'Oreal Lash Paradise.
Sponsored looks more green in real life, for some reason the camera can't pick up the green and instead the greige-brown undertone. If you're like me and pure green eyeshadows, this is such a wearable but colourful shade.
So I love purple shadows but I had to go to an appointment so I didn't want to look to glam so I tried to do a wearable pink-purple look. I used Supreme as a transition shade, Pinker in the crease and lower lashline and Big Wig in the outer V. On the lid I used Soleil on the inner third of the lid, Zamn on the centre and Shookington on the outer edge. This is definitely a look I would do again but I'd maybe amp it up a bit and use more purple.
For my lashes I used L'Oreal Lash Paradise and the Ardell 110's and on my lower waterline I used Rimmel Scandaleyes liner in 005 Nude.
I have wanted a burgundy eyeliner for a while so I decided to try using Pinker as an eyeliner. I really like how it turned out! On my lower waterline I used Rimmel Scandaleyes in 005 Nude, lashes are L'Oreal Lash Paradise and Ardell 602's cut in half.
This is my favourite look I have created using this palette! I used Ginger as a transition shade, and Edges in the crease , Credit in the outer V and along the lashline, Dwollahs on the lid and Soleil in the inner corner.
My lashes are L'Oreal Lash Paradise and Ardell Demi Wispies and on my lower waterline I used Rimmel Scandaleyes in 005 Nude,
For this red look I used Ginger and Edges in the crease outer V and lashline, with Wiggalese all over the the lid and Soleil in the centre of the lid and in the inner corner. Lashes are L'Oreal Lash Paradise mascara and the Ardell 603's.
Wiggalese was one of the shades that I wasn't sure how I'd use. I was pleasantly surprised at how flattering this shadow was one me. Personally, I need a little bit of light on the lid (small, hooded eye problems) so I did add some of Soleil on top of Wiggalese. In doing so the centre of the lid looked like deep burnt orange which added the dimension I wanted and I was really happy with how it looked.
For this look I used Supreme as a transition shade, Pinker in the crease and outer V and slightly lower down in the crease and in the outer V, I used Big Wig. On the lid I am using Shookington and Soleil on the inner corner.
I liked how all of these shadows performed but I don't find Shookington to be that flattering on me. It's a gorgeous shade but I do feel like it looks like I have a black eye (but a very nice looking black eye though). This was my least favourite look that I did with this palette but again, that has nothing to do with the quality or performance of the shadows. If you have brown or green eyes I feel like it would probably be more flattering, so I would definitely reach for this shade if I was doing someone else makeup if they wanted a smoky purple look.
For this look I used Ginger in the crease and Credit to deepen the crease and I used both shades to smoke out the lower lashline. On the lid I used Lituation and for the inner corner I used Soleil.
Now surprisingly the more I used the palette, the more I felt like I was unsure of what to pair Lituation with. I do think it pairs pretty well with Credit but I feel like this shade would look amazing with a slightly lighter cool-toned brown with it. However, I am happy with how this look turned out.
This palette is amazing, as always the formula of Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadows is super blendable. However what really makes this palette stand out to me is the colour story, it's probably the most well thought out palette ABH have released yet. This palette has great versatility and it's definitely my favourite palette right now! After using this palette for one month, my most used shadow was Ginger and my favourite shadow in this palette is probably Zamn, I'd love to see ABH bring out more shadows with this formula.
I saw this week that in the US on the Macy's website this palette is on sale for half the price, so I think it may only be a matter of time before its reduced most places its sold. I think its such a shame this palette didn't have its time to shine. If you like the look of this palette, I'd definitely recommend buying it. Even if you're quite fair like me, it's a wonderful companion palette.
