In my last post from our Italian road trip this summer, we visited Alberobello and after a couple of hours there, got back in the car and headed towards our next destination: beautiful Gallipoli!
We arrived in Gallipoli on an almost unbearably hot afternoon. After having parked the car by the harbor and spent way too long trying to figure out how to pay for it, we dragged our suitcases up the stairs of the old town and found our little B&B. Our first impression of Gallipoli was this view, so needless to say, we were not dissapointed!
We took an hour or two to just enjoy the view and crash on our beds for a while, pretty exhausted after a long day. But then it was time to check out the town!
Gallipoli caught my heart right away. If it hadn't been for the heat, I could have walked around for hours, despite how small the old city center was. Once you got on the main streets, it got a bit touristy, but if you kept to the smaller streets everything just felt so... genuinly Italian.
We continued out little walk down to the harbor and wow... The ocean in the evening sun just took my breath away. Can you believe how many beautiful places there is on this earth?!
While waiting for our dinner reservation, we sat down for an Aperol Spritz, as one must on an Italian summer evening.
When our stomachs started growling we headed back towards the direction of our hotel, because just around the corner was a seafood restaurant we had been told has great food.
And great food we got! The picture might not do it justice, but that pasta was absolutely amazing. The rest of my family shared some freshly caught fish, which was just as delicious. And some wine with that, of course. And an espresso to finish of the day. After getting back from the dinner we collapsed on our beds right away, completely exhausted after a day of leaving the villa in Martina Franca, visiting Alberobello and then exploring Gallipoli. Creds to my dad for all that driving. Day two in this gorgeous city coming soon, in a blog close to you!
