Avoid “if...then...”-rewards in the classroom. No extrinsic motivation, it doesn’t work in the long run. How about grades? 🧐

Would avoiding “if...then...”-rewards work at home with our kids? Perhaps. Have we been overusing this strategy? Absolutely. 😂

Better with “now that”-rewards providing praise, feedback and useful information.

Autonomy, flow and growth mindset are other concepts that Pink brings up as factors of intrinsic motivation or Motivation 3.0.

🤩 As a #language #teacher you are also a language #learner . Once in a while I #read a #novel , #comics or #shortstories in the #target language for several reasons: for the #love of #literature , #vocabulary #retention and #expansion , #grammar and #cultural aspects.

As I need to brush up on my #Spanish I am #reading “El Juego del Ángel” (“The Angel’s Game”) by Carlos Ruiz Zafón @zafonoficial . This is the #sequel after “La Sombra del Viento” (The Shadow of the Wind”) in the #series “El cementerio de los libros olvidados” (“The Cemetery of Forgotten Books”).

I #read the first #book in Spanish too and I loved it. It was a great #challenge vocabularywise and an amazing #reading #experience - the #setting , #characterization , #plot , #style , #mood … everything. 😍

#Watch #series with #audio in the target #language with #subtitles in either your mother tongue or even better, in another language that you master.

This summer I have some time to refresh some of my language #skills and my #objective is to watch the first episode of all kinds of series in #Japanese , #Spanish , #German and #Chinese .

I'll start off with episode one of the #anime "Deathnote”.
