I was at The Echo the other week to see and snap some pics of The Shelters. I really like this band, their songs are great, they are tight live and entertaining. The two singers have two different stiles, both song wise and fashion wise. One of them goes with the 50s style, the other one seems to be more into 60s and 70s fashion influences. The energy on the stage is great, with one of the singers/guitarists bending back, crouching, and what not while the other singer/guitarist is pulling off some 50s moves. He seems to live and breathe that style. When we went out to wait for our Uber driver and tried to explain where he was supposed to drive (they never find their way to The Echo… what’s up with that?), one of the singers was standing outside with some friends. There he was, leaning slightly against the wall, with his legs stretched out, with perfectly backcombed hair, smoking a cigarette, channeling some kind of mix of Marlon Brando and James Dean (I hope you know who that is, most people here seem to have no idea...). Seriously, it was hard not to stare.
Anyway, the band is great and if you get a chance to see them live – do it! I hope to hear more new music from them soon and catch them live in the nearest future!
