Chain of Iron, The last hours #2 (2021) by Cassandra Clare - Just break my heart already!?

Books

”- Cassandra Clare, Chain of Iron

Hvilket også bare alt i alt, taler in i min forudsigelse fra sidste år, om at jeg ville elske denne bog mere en Chain of gold, hvilket jeg gør!

I read Chain of Iron in almost one sitting and it was a wild ride - let me tell you! (#nosleepcausebooks) I'm sure I'll reread it again already within the next few months because I was just blown away from everything happening!
This will be a non-spoilery review, but only if you have read the first book in the series, Chain of gold (2020). You can read my review of that book here

Cordelia Carstairs seems to have everything she ever wanted. She’s engaged to marry James Herondale, the boy she has loved since childhood. She has a new life in London with her best friend Lucie Herondale and James’s charming companions, the Merry Thieves. She is about to be reunited with her beloved father. And she bears the sword Cortana, a legendary hero’s blade.
But the truth is far grimmer. James and Cordelia’s marriage is a lie, arranged to save Cordelia’s reputation. James is in love with the mysterious Grace Blackthorn whose brother, Jesse, died years ago in a terrible accident. Cortana burns Cordelia’s hand when she touches it, while her father has grown bitter and angry. And a serial murderer is targeting the Shadowhunters of London, killing under cover of darkness, then vanishing without a trace.
Together with the Merry Thieves, Cordelia, James, and Lucie must follow the trail of the knife-wielding killer through the city’s most dangerous streets. (Source: Goodreads

“We are none of us perfect, and no one expects perfection. But when you have hurt people, you must allow them their anger. Otherwise, it will only become another thing you have tried to take away.” - Cassandra Clare, Chain of Iron

Cassandra Clare did with this book, what she does best, which is
to make me miserable and crave the next book as if it was water to a person in traped in a dessert!
There was so much hurt and angst in this book, and everybody was trying so hard to do their best. The longing and love that the characters bore in their hearts for each other were maddening! Please give these kids a happy ending and cake in the next book, please! Because boy did the ending of this one just have me in tears! - everybody was just hurting so much...
I was a bit afraid that I would find the book a bit long and dragged because I was a millisecond form feeling that just a tiny bit with Chain of gold, the first time I read it, but it had me from the beginning, and held onto me until the end! The magic of a sequel hehe.
There was still the problem of a lot of side characters and having a hard time keeping track of them all... But again this also felt a lot worse in the first book compared to this one.
Which all in all also just backs up my own predictions from last year, that I would love this book just a bit more than Chain of gold, which I did! - But they are both deeply loved hehe.

Grace Blackthorn
became a bit more interesting in this one and she felt a lot more like a real person! I just can't wait for her facade to crack even more in the next! I just hope that she won't break because of it...
Her partnership with Lucie Herondale and Lucie's thoughts about Grace was also a very interesting part of the book! Their quest to wake Jessie from the dead intrigued me A LOT!
James Herondale is the guy who is equal parts hot and sweet, and I'm, pretty sure Cordelia would agree. I truly just want to give him a good shake and tell him to wake UP and do something about a certain silver problem he has round his wrist
I like the way Cordelia Carstairs is so very human in her problems and solutions. Still, she is no pushover and she will kick your ass if need be. She and Alastair are just the perfect pair of siblings! And the way they stand up for each other just warms my heart. I liked that we got to get to know him (and his desires ;)) a bit better.
Thomas and Christopher Lightwood are both sweethearts and their quiet way of life doesn't mean that they aren't filed with emotions and thoughts, and I felt that they came to play and got the screen time (number of pages??) that they deserved!
Matthew Fairchild is tough because he is like James - Just as much as I love him and want to tell him he has a dashing style, I also want to grab him and tell him to give his parents a hug and believe that he deserves love!

I always want these posts to be short which is beyond my powers (which I already knew but hoped would change without me having to do anything ;)) BUT on that note, I would like to tell you that I've made myself a
bookstagram @laurad_reads, and it would mean a lot if you would like to follow along!
And please also leave a comment with your non-spoilery thoughts down below, and if you want to talk about everything spoiler please DM me on Instagram - I would love to hear what you think!
