Over the past 10 years hundreds of thousands of New Zealanders have taken to the streets, lobbied the government, sailed in flotillas and put their bodies on the line to protest oil AND TOGETHER, we have made oil history.

In April, New Zealand became one of the first countries in the world to ban new offshore oil exploration licenses. Four million square kilmters of ocean are new off limits from fossil fuel corporations.

We have proved that when we unite and stand together, we can win.

The Rainbow Warrior is here in New Zealand (see schedule below) to celebrate the courage of New Zealander's to end oil exploration and our choice for a brighter, safer and healthier future.

New Zealand made a bold move when it closed the door on offshore oil and gas exploration. Now we need a new plan. A plan that redesigns our energy system so that it PROTECTS our FRAGILE ATMOSPHERE AND GIVES PEOPLE AND COMMUNITIES CONTROL OVER THEIR ENERGY.

Today, New Zealand's energy is expensive, outdated and still dependent on dirty fuels. We need a CLEAN energy system that prioritises safe climate, local ownership and affordable bills.

VISION a country where most of our energy comes from wind, sun and water; where households make and control their own power; where our trains, buses, cars and trucks are driven by clean electricity rather than polluting fuels; and where clean-energy jobs and skills are created for thousands of New Zealanders. A perfect utopia.

We need to embark on building a new clean energy system that is desperately needed to replace the fuels of the past. Under the new government, there has never been a better time to put the power back into the hands of the people. LITERALLY. Lets give ourselves the chance to make our own energy.

Join Greenpeace New Zealand and myself, as we call on the Government to solarise half a million homes over the next ten years.
