This is my second vintage purse. I did some digging and found this super cute beaded purse from eBay with very little signs of wear. (if any!).
So I decided to share some tips on how to buy great vintage fashion online:
- DESIGN OF THE BAG:
This should be one of the most important when searching for a good vintage item - of course. If we you don't like the design, there is no way you can use it later. Look for trendy silhouettes, materials or fabrications. Handmade work/weave/braid are my favorites.
- OVERALL CONDITION OF THE BAG:
There is nothing better than opening a package and find out the vintage item you bought was barely used! (or at least it looks like!)
It's almost like finding a hidden treasure. Great condition vintage is hard to find!
That's why sometimes the prices for these pieces are slightly higher but trust me: it's worth it.
When buying vintage online, make sure to look at all the details of the piece. Inspect the corners, the edges, the hardware. Inspect inside the purse, the coat, the dress. The liner needs to be clean and free or any rips or stains. If none of these details are clearly visible on the photos provided, e-mail the seller, and ask for more pictures. Usually, the sellers are really friendly and send additional pictures when requested.
Fake leather usually doesn't wear well after a few years. It peels off, the glued parts come unglued, and there is no way to fix it. I suggest looking for real leather (it's better for the environment & lasts longer) and natural fibers like rattan, wood, linen, etc.
Fur? I only buy faux-fur. Usually, the faux-fur items are very durable as well.
Besides eBay, I also bought a vintage mule on Etsy (in perfect condition!) and a Fendi suede bag (also in mint condition).
Another good place is Tradesy.com, where I bought a cute bucket bag from Fendi as well.
Have a little fun, and happy vintage shopping!
