So often, I hear and see persons around me and in the media constantly talking about everything going wrong in the world in regard to the black race. Talking about all the challenges which we face in society- poverty, racism, crime, the list goes on. But how often do we ever look back and reflect on the reality which underlies the circumstances which we as black people face?
Young black girls grow up in so many different environments. Some of the households which many black girls come from is so heart-wrenching that if we had the opportunity to take a first hand look at what they experience we would probably second guess humanity itself. Not to mention that there are black girls that grow up in the most profoundly perfect and immaculate environments unimaginable. So the question is why are the statistics unbiased in regard to which black girls end up being lead astray? Because the reality is all black girls are equally susceptible to suffering on all levels.
The ratio of colored girls to any other race of girls making angry posts about heartbreak and pain from "a nigga who did them wrong" is unbelievable. Why?
If I am to answer this question, I would say black girls grow up in society forced to adjust and assimilate without really understanding what the reality of their society is! That's why giving their everything to a man, or taking commands and being mistreated by another man is deemed as normal. What is it going to take to change this situation. It is much larger than my blog post! But until the awakening becomes a reality, the unfortunate situations placed upon black women everywhere around the world will never be reversed.
I can honestly say that so far, February has been good to me. I guess it's probably because I entered the New Year with the right mindset - a positive and productive one. I still fail to understand why so many people dread this month because of Valentine's Day. My take on it is that every year is different and the best way to prevent that anxiety that comes with the question of if you'll get that special person to give you a piece the world is to not expect anything at all. Valentine's Day is supposed to be a day not just of love but surprises and from my experience the greatest contentment has come from not expecting anything at all and in reality I wound up drowning in chocolate and gaining 10 lbs.
If you happen to be one of the ladies consecutively unlucky on Valentine's Day - love yourself til you can't anymore! Spoil yourself with chocolate, go to the spa, get slayed for yourself. After some time you'll realize that the love you have been giving yourself is the same love you deserve from someone else. It's a good practice because until you find that person to meet your standards you won't settle for less ;)
There's no better feeling anywhere in this world than knowing that God gave you the opportunity to be one year older, stronger, wiser and healthy. 21 is the age which everyone; no doubt dreams of becoming because at that point you're almost there but not quite.
My family, friends, boyfriend and everyone who loves and supports me in all that I do want the very best for me, as I do for them. 20 showed me the people who don't deserve me, the people who never did and those who who took advantage too. But at 21 I am more than a conqueror of my trails. I am a woman of my own.
May God guide me to 22
