Abort är olagligt i Irland. Visste ni det? Fucking olagligt.
When people think of abortion being illegal, they don't think of the western world. They'd probably be shocked to find out that abortion in Ireland is ILLEGAL. It's not modern and definitely not safe. Placing a fetus over a woman's life is disgusting and can destroy the woman's life. Should a rape victim have to go through the pain of carrying her rapists child? Should someone who was attacked have to be shamed for wanting to remove the thing that reminds her of the most horrifying moment of her life? Should a teenaged girl with her whole life ahead of her, or a poor woman with no chance of being able to support her child be FORCED to risk dying in childbirth?
Women should have a right to choose over their own bodies. No law should prohibit us from having a medical procedure.
What about the lives of the BORN? The people who will be forced to deal with the child? Because I don't see any pro-lifers stepping in to financially support the baby once it's born. It's not pro-life, it's pro-birth. Once the baby is born, pro-lifers don't care. All the Eight amendment does it harm the mother. How is that pro-life? Oh right, it's only the unborn life that matters. Not the woman who's life is turned upside down, and has to use money to travel to have an abortion, or dies while trying to have an illegal abortion, or dies in childbirth. The woman who has to look at her rapists child, or the woman who has to go through a pregnancy even though there's no chance for the baby to survive outside the womb, who cares about her, right? Only the unborn lives matter.
The 8th amendment needs to be repealed. It should NEVER be brought up again. It is almost 2017, so why are women fighting for the rights to their own bodies? Why is a fetus called a "life" when it can't survive without the woman's body? How is that comparable to a BORN human?
Leave women alone. Leave their bodies alone. Spare rape victims, poor people, teenagers and people who's fetus will die shortly after birth the devastating experience. Spare families and friends the pain of seeing a loved one be forced through a pregnancy, and/or die in childbirth.
Ireland HAS to do better than this.
