I've skipped a couple years now to the next important aspect of my life in Sweden; meeting Rebecka.

I'd been working as a change manager for some time now and had experience working in several different projects. That's why when my manager asked me to support a project called ROC I didn't think anything of it. Little did I know that this project would change my life completely.

I'll skip to our first project meeting that I joined in person. Jan Hård was an ass. He was the project manager at the time. An ass but an intelligent and competent PM none the less. What he lacked in social skills he made up for with stakeholder management and reporting. It didn't take long before i was joking with Rebecka about the fact that Jan is such an ass. In fact it was our first break in the meeting where I pulled her aside and commented about keeping her stress levels down when dealing with him; The first time I made her laugh :)

It didn't take long before I knew that everything in my life and journey so far was for the single purpose of meeting Rebecka. Whether you believe in fate or God or Buddah or Allah or nothing at all. Most people won't argue the fact that some things happen for a reason. I truly believe I started working at IKEA and moved to Sweden to meet Rebecka.

I knew immediately that this beautiful, smart, intellectual Swedish woman would be the woman I would marry and spend the rest of my life with. I love you Älskling.

Oh herre..

It was my 2nd day on the job and we had a Change Management matrix meeting in Copenhagen.

I started this blog thinking I'd tell you all about the beautiful city of Copenhagen, which it really is. However I'd really like to tell you about how this is when I met one of my good friends (Danny /a.k.a. Amigo) for the first time. He doesn't know it at the time but he's about to be a huge support and a great friend to me over the coming years.

Danny is one of those friends that you just know will be there for you no matter what, and I hope he knows I'm there for him in the same way. When and if you read this Danny know that you have been a major part of my transition to life in Sweden (despite the fact you are Danish and live in Denmark :) ) we have shared so many laughs and hockey nights to count and I know and hope we will share many more. I feel lucky and privileged to call you my friend. Thanks for being there. "SuperBrugsen"

Finally it came, the day which I have been waiting months for: my first day on the job in Helsingborg, Sweden.

I had been in Helsingborg previously to meet with a relocation company whose job it was to find me permanent accommodations and show me around town, things like the grocery store, how to open a bank account without a personnr. (Almost EVERYTHING in Sweden depend on this magic number {Canadian SIN}) etc. One of the things they provided for me was a book about the customs and cultures in Sweden. If I were to take a single thing from that book it would be punctuality. It explained how Swedes are all about being on time, not early and certainly not late.

So just as the book suggested I arrived at 07:59 for my 08:00 start time and so began my first day of working in Sweden. The day was mostly about networking and fixing practicalities. I met a lot of really nice people who I would work along side with for the coming years. The day was for the most part a lot of information. Enough so that at 17:00 when it was time to go home I headed straight for the luxurious Tornet and crashed for the night.

Wishing you all a great Tuesday!

Woooaawooaaa you're in the army now.

Hotel Tornet is a long-term stay hotel in Helsingborg. The rooms are basic and equipped with a small bed and a kitchenette. The staff are unfriendly but the location is quite nice; located beside Kärnan "castle" (or what's left of it anyway)

I learned quite quickly that there was a burger shack across the road which became a favourite destination for when I didn't want to cook my own dinner.

At this point I was still eating food that came in a box, something I would in the coming years phase out of my life for healthier, home cooked meals.

A short blog today because nothing really special to write about Tornet bedsides my advice, stay elsewhere

My thoughts are with Brussels today and all the persons and their families that have been affected by these senseless acts of terror.
