Mental illness and suicide
In the 20th century Paul Ekman identified six basic emotions. This feelings are anger, disgust, fear, happiness, sadness, and surprise but Robert Plutchik identified eight. Then he grouped them into four pairs against their opposites joy-sadness, anger-fear, trust-distrust, surprise-anticipation. We are born with this feelings. They are important to us. They help us, we get scared so we know we have to go away. We know when something is funny, we need to feel loved, and protected. But sometimes this feelings go to far. And like they say in the article in Kidshelt.org when you are depressed it is not just your emotions that changes. It affects everything. How you think, how you act, how you se at things. Depression takes away your happiness and things that you used to like. Some people get so depressed so that they get suicidal thoughts.
The World Health Organization have done a estimates on people and discovered that 300 million people in the world, currently suffer from depression. In the article from Canadian Mental Health Association Toronto ,The Relationship between Suicide and Mental Illness it says ”It is estimated that depression will become the second most common cause of disability, after heart disease, by 2020.”.
Anxiety is one thing that we all know. "Anxiety is an alarm system that is activated when a person perceives danger or threat." - Article in Kidshelt.org. Anxiety can go over to a panic attacks, which is a stronger reaction to danger. When we feel we are in a dangerous situation our body’s fighting system get starts. The body prepares us to run or fight. So adrenaline rush through our body. But it is when this happens without any danger it’s called panick attacks or anxiety attacks. And somehow all the adrenaline need to come out in some way. Physical feelings get started, faster heartbeat, pressure over the chest, hart to breathe, crying and the body do to get rid of the leftover energy. It’s different from person to person. But it’s really horrible.
About 800 000 people die from suiced every year.
In the US is suiced the 10 th cause of death. 44 193 Americans dies in suicied every year.
In average that is 121 person per day. Some suicide is paned and some aren’t. Many times suicide attempts happens impulsively. In a article in Kidshelt.org they mean that for some people attempt suicide is ther only way to express their pain. And some people want to die and some of them just want help. Some people don’t know how to say that thay need help and don’t feel well.

It’s more men who attempt suicied then women.
American foundation for Suicied Prevention have done some studys on suicied.
• Men die by suicide 3.5x more often than women.
• The annual age-adjusted suicide rate is 13.26 per 100,000 individuals.
• White males accounted for 7 of 10 suicides in 2015.
• Firearms account for almost 50% of all suicides.
• Suicide costs the US $ 44 Billion annually.
• For every suicide is it 25 attempt
So what dose this say about society? I think this numbers is far from okey. The society need to do something. We need to talk about it. We need to know more about it and kill the taboos. People are not supposed to die because they don’t get the right help or think that are some kinda of freak because how they feel. It’s okey to feel like carp. But what’s not okey is to not take this seriously. I herd on the radio the other day that BRIS(a organisation in Sweden) have get over 10 000 calls about menta lillness in 2016. And that is a lot mer then they usally get. And in Sweden they called it “an alarm clock”, that means that we need to open our eyse and do somthing about it. So I hope that this is a waking call for everybody. We need to do somthing now.
