Good morning!

Tomorrow it is Christmas and my parents are arriving before lunch so I'm going to pick them up. Till then I have some last things to do. Go and get some beer we've ordered and then by the last of the food. Some oranges and such. Then just picking up a bit here at home and then off to the gym is my plan. I still haven't decided how to plan my exercise, still changing it every time I go there. Anyway, I'm gonna finish my tea and then get dressed to go and do the last shopping! Talk to you later.

Hi there!

It is December and during this time of the year people like to light candles and have a lot of different lights turned on. There are a few things that you can do to make it more safe. To start with is a fire alarm/smoke alarm, this detects smoke and gives off a loud irritating noise. But the big question is do you know your smoke alarm is working? Well that is easy to test, there is a little button on most of them and you'll hear the noise. This could be good to do with you children or if you're living with other people that everyone know the sound of the smoke alarm and know what to do when they hear it.

A good compliment to the smoke alarm is a fire blanket, this is probably what I see as most useful after the smoke alarm. It doesn't make things messy and is easy to use. The blanket can even be used on people if they for some reason would catch on fire (hope you never have to see that!). My tip is to keep the blanket in the kitchen near the stove and easy to reach and other place that is good to have it is the living room since people often spend a lot of time there and also in the bedroom. You might wonder why in the bedroom? Well the reason for that is that if your smoke alarm goes of during the night and you have the blanket by your bed maybe the fire is still small enough for you to be able to put it out yourself and limit the damages.

The final part which makes your fire equipment complete is a fire extinguisher with powder, the most messy one but the most effective one for most types of fires. If you know how to use a fire extinguisher properly it can be really useful. I think that the fire extinguisher can be placed in the same areas as the fire blanket and for the same reasons.

A last tip now when it soon is Christmas and a lot of people have Christmas trees is to water is properly, the reason why I'll show you in the video underneath. With that said I'm getting up and giving my tree some water! {Link to video }

Hi!

I know it has been some time since I posted something now but it is cause I got a horrible migraine last Friday. I was in bed all day and it didn't get better how much I slept so I wound up going to buy some strong migraine medicine which did help a bit. The following days I still felt a little bit of it lingering around so I've been eating painkillers and taking it easy and not spending time by the computer. Therefore there haven't been any posts. I do have some in store and I'm gonna work more on that the following days while I'm making the Christmas food and cleaning up the dirty dishes.

Today I'm taking a test which I haven't studied so much for. Many might think that it is a waste of time but I see it as practice for when I'm gonna take this retest for real or how I should put it. The last few days I've taken some time to review a lot of things and some things I still remember from earlier and trying to get some new things into my head. I also made flashcards for this course and I've done a few of those. Gonna get at doing those more properly after Christmas and also making up a plan for the other tests I'm gonna take and try to spread it out over a longer time. So I don't get stressed and wind up with this stupid headache/migraine business any time soon.

Well now I gotta get dressed and brush my teeth before heading off to the test and after that hitting the gym! I'll get back to you a bit later!

Hello!

Today has been a little of a pamper day because I finally took some time to go and have my nails fixed. I can hardly remember last time I did it (okay, sometime this summer...) and I'm really happy with the result. Christmas red and some red glitter on that, it can hardly get any better that that! I usually just get gellack but this time I did strengthening gel so they are a bit thicker than usual but I'm still happy happy happy. I must say that I feel much better with painted nails, is makes me happy. Feels like I've said happy a lot of times already but you guys just have to live with it cause I'm in a good mood and I haven't been that in a few weeks it feels like. More about that in another post though... How to deal with stress is what I was thinking of talking about!

Well now I have to get some other things done before it's time to make dinner and take a shower. Was gonna go swimming today but forgot everything at home when I went into town to do my nails (btw, I don't live out of town, 10 minute bus ride, but feels unnecessary to go back today) so I'm gonna go for an early morning swim. Maybe not really early but around 7-9 o'clock depending on how the day looks. But my goal is to start the day with a swim, that means my shower tonight is postponed to tomorrow morning! Yay! I really hate getting into the shower and getting out of it too.. Damn it! Got stuck writing more than I thought, owell... 😄

So what do I do all day then? How does a typical day look like. Well I have the alarm clock go off at 06:00 and get out of bed sometime between 06:30 and 07:00 and then it is breakfast and getting ready to leave for school at about 07':30. Some days I stay at home and work (not that often though) and then I still have the alarm going off the same time but my day starts earlier instead. So I do school work from 08:00-12:00, lunch 12:00-13:00 and then continue with school work from 13:00 till earliest 16:00 but I try to stick to it till 18:00. After school I try to get some exercise done (new schedule for that too, will show you guys later), either some swimming of weights at the gym and some days none of that sounds fun I take a long walk (at least one hour).

Then its time for dinner and we usually watch some tv and then go to bed and then that is on repeat for every weekday. Weekends are a bit different, since I can get very stressed I need the time during the weekend to relax and get my mind off school. I'm usually in bed between 9-10 o'clock to start my process in calming down and then falling asleep. I can't just lay down and fall asleep directly not even if I'm so tired I can't keep my eyes open.

Well that is more or less what each day looks like!

A bracelet I made some time ago...

Hi there!

It's been kind of dead here on the blog the past 1-2 months now and the reason for that is school. It takes all my time it feels like and there is no inspiration or energy to post anything anymore. I can't say that I like it that way but there isn't much to do, or maybe there is. I do like blogging when I actually do it, it makes me use my camera and actually use it. Maybe I need a new way of writing my blog, or more what I fill it with. I've noticed that posts that are about school are interesting and some of you are still waiting for my post about what I'm studying and such but want it to be a good post so I'm still working on it. Lets say I'll write it during Christmas when I've decided to take a few days off from school work.

Well mainly letting you guys know that I haven't forgotten about you but I don't always have the inspiration as mentioned earlier. While writing this I've actually been writing another post so lets put my goal at one post a day to start with. Hope everyone hasn't left!

Hi there!

As you guys know I'm studying to become a fire engineer and there are a lot of different subjects that need to be completed in school to get my degree. There are two different kinds of test that one can take, one where you do a lot of calculations and one where it is just a lot of facts that need to be presented. Earlier I though the facts were the easy test but now I'm leaning more towards the calculating tests. You learn a way to calculate a certain kind of problem and then you can apply it to similar problems. They might change the fuel for the fire of different dimensions of the rooms but you still know how to compute the answer. But tests only based on different facts are more difficult, you can't just learn a certain way of solving a question cause it can include so much more and you can describe things in so many different ways. Next week I'm having one test in Fire Dynamics I and one in Psychology and how it affects leadership and crises. Therefore I need to study very differently for these two tests.

For the fire dynamics I'm solving the problems in the book and the other problems our teachers have given us through some old tests. For that test we also get to have a book of formulas with us and a calculator, so that feels a bit easier once you get the hang of how to calculate the different problems and that is moving forward. Then there is the psychology test that I'm not as sure about. It is a totally different way of studying, it is not just sitting and calculating a lot of problems to pass that test. So I've made a bunch of flash cards and trying to learn these, I do know a bit of it from attending classes but it takes some more practice to get it into the long term memory (aahh, one thing we learned about in class...). So I have these flash cards but was a bit unsure of how to most efficiently learn what are one these. Therefore I turned to my friend Youtube. I'm following a guy there, Thomas Frank, that posts a lot of different videos about studying and the tips and advice he gives are very good and luckily he had made a video about flash cards just in July. I watched this and took some of the advice, one of them I didn't take, or actually two of the tips I didn't take. One was using image mnemonics cause it is not easy to apply pictures to all the psychology terms and I don't feel like I have the time for that right now. Also only have one answer on the back of the card doesn't really work for this subject, or it probably does but then I need a huge pile of cards and since I already have about 30 cards I didn't feel like making more of them.

To learn these flash cards I'm applying a new technique I've never used before called Spaced Repetition System. But how it works and how it works for me I'll tell you about later so I can give you a review of how it works. Well that was all for now!

Long road till you know it all but there are always fun things along the way!

Hey guys!

This past week has been busy. First I finally celebrated my birthday almost a month later but that doesn't really matter in my opinion. Many people don't celebrate their birthdays when they get older but that is probably something I will always continue doing. Not only to have a party but it is a way to get all my friends gathered now when we live spreed out over the whole country. Even if we don't need a birthday or something special this is just how it has turned out to be!

So what have I been doing all week? Well, mainly studying. Our tests are in two weeks so it is near. It always feels like it is really far till the tests and then suddenly it is next week or so. Every time it gets me.. But this time I've not fallen behind in any subject either. Haven't had many lectures either this period. A few more wouldn't have hurt but the teachers answer quickly by e-mail.

Yesterday we changes the tires on the car to the winter ones. It is getting could up here with about -2 degrees Celsius in the morning. Sometimes it is warmer during the day if it is sunny which it was most of yesterday. You can really start to feel the change in the season and it's soon time to go and get the winter shoes from the basement and all the winter coats. Yes, I do own a few but they have different purposes. Well after changing the tires and doing some work for school we decided to take a walk around the little mountain or whatever you should call it, hill maybe is a better word for it. Anyway it was a nice 45 minute walk with the sunset in front of us between the trees.

Well now lunchtime is over and I'm off to get a cup of tea and relocate myself to the quite part of the library. Hopefully I'll get some more stuff done there!

Everyday life, Cooking & baking

Hey!

Last weekend we spent almost all of Saturday with baking bread. Made four loafs as usual! But this time I succeeded with baking them all the way through, last time I was a bit impatient so they we're a bit doughy. In the middle of baking the I suddenly had the urge to bake some cookies to. So during the time we waited for the bread to raise a last time 90 cookies where in the making. Might sound like a lot of work but these cookies are simple to make, or at least for me cause I've made for as long as I can remember. Always baked these with my grandmother each time I came to visit and when she was too old to help she sat next too me giving me tips. And now I bake them at least for Christmas each year but might start baking them more often if I get the little measurement doohickey up here that my grandfather made. It makes all the cookies the same length.

A few of the cookies done! So yummy, don't really know what to call them in English but in Swedish we call the"kolakakor". Can look up the recipe later so you can make these yummy bites too! Can also mention that the cookie monsters (not only me!!) have been at it so there aren't that many cookies left. 😞

Well, the dough decided to rise so much that the bowl I had placed it in almost fell over. There for Fredrik had to hold it the rest of the time of the rising.

Here are the loafs. If you're wondering about the two to the right, they had to rise a bit longer and well I haven't excelled in that part yet! But at least none of the loafs are doughy!

On top of this we also made a huge amount of meatballs to put in the freezer. About 4-5 meals for us (so a total of 8-10 meals per person). The recipe used to make the meatballs is my grandfathers so they are of course my favorite as well! Can't wait till lunch today when we are going to fry some of these for lunch 😍

Hey!

The other day we spent in the lab putting fire to small pieces of wood with different densities. What we basically did was to measure and weigh the samples before they where put in the cone calorimeter. Before we exposed the samples to heat the dimensions of the samples and their weight put in to a program on the computer next to the cone calorimeter, the computer computed (haha) a lot of results for us that then where used to do a bunch of calculations.

Since we are gonna write a report about this and they wanted pictures in the report I took my camera with me to get proper pictures and could also show them to you guys. Hope you like the pictures from a "normal" day at school.

The cone calorimeter, computer to the left

The first sample had just ignited

And this is directly after the second sample had ignited

And this is all that is left from the first sample! Just a piece of coal more or less.
