The future equals female
Yesterday I was online shopping and I saw a sweater with a print that said "the future equals female", a print that evoked many feelings.
We are absolutely far from complete equality between the genders, but there are some countries that have shown huge progress and a determination to reach there. One example is one of the Scandinavian countries, the country called Iceland.
The parliament of Iceland consists of just as many women as men. There is no majority of men. There is not more power to the man. It is equal.
A woman in the parliament stated in the movie "Where to invade next" that one woman is not enough. Two women are also not enough, that would not make a difference at all. Women should not be in minority, and that is why Iceland has just as many women as men in their parliament.
So why is this awesome? First of all, a group of just men tends to get too much testosterone; too much confidence which consequently contributes to more risk-taking. An example of why this is a true fact can be found in the financial crisis Iceland had some years ago. All the banks failed on giving people their money except from one; the bank founded by women, the bank where women were doing the work. A worker of that bank claims that men tend to think "what will I get out from this" while women tend to think "what will make the whole better". Women tend to be less egocentric. Additionally, the book Management states that women have shown better ability when in comes to teamwork.
Being able to work as a team is definitely significant when it comes to making important decisions in the parliament. An equal mix of men and women is therefore optimal in order to reach a better world; a world where both genders have the possibility to make decisions.
If we want better conditions for women we have to include them in decision-making. We need to give women more power so that they have a chance to be just as powerful as men.
The future equals female; that print on the sweater I found online is a print that should be spread worldwide. However, the quote should not be interpreted in a way that men should not have any power at all; that is not what feminism is about at all. The quote just states that the future should consist of more focus and love to the woman; because the woman is truly amazing. If we all try to give more power to the woman, the future will (eventually) equal equality.
