This was my first rotary meeting and I was sooo excited. When i first got there on Friday afternoon it was pretty intimidating, but after an hour we were all acting like we have known each other for years. I guess it must be that desperation to be with someone who understands you. Anyway, after being there for about 15 minutes I could definitely tell groups were forming with the 30 or so exchange students. Everybody separated into groups where they could speak their native language. There was the english group(Americans, Canadians, Kiwis and Australians), the Portuguese group(Brazilians), the Spanish group(Latin Americans) and the manganese group(Taiwanese). That night everybody played the jellybean game. For those who don't know it is the game where you spin a wheel and whatever jellybean the arrow lands on you have to eat, but the catch is there is one bad jellybean(ex. stinky sock) and one good jellybean(ex. tutti frutti) and they look exactly the same.

Lucky for me I got Canned Dog Food. Yum. Since it was lights out at 11 most everyone in my room stayed up and talked. All I can remember talking about know is American politics and that the Australian Prime minister is crazy and has "2 good looking daughters". I'm quoting my friend on that. Either way it was a really good bonding opportunity. The next day we went to the beach at La Baules it was very pretty. Some people went swimming, but I didn't instead I just chilled on the beach. We were there for I believe around 2hrs and 30mins and the WHOLE TIME people just took a bunch of pictures. BLEH. That night some of the guys and me played a game of pick up soccer. It was so fun. When it was completely dark all of the exchange students played a game of cops and robbers. It was pretty fun.

My First Day of school was very interesting. I mean I figured school in France was going to be different then school in the states, but I did not expect it to be this drastic of a change. For starters everyone smokes! 15 year old high school students will walk up to their teachers and ask them for a light. Another thing that is very different is how long their school days are. The average day goes from 7:30 - 6:00, thats almost 12 hours! I hate it. My first day was also really frustrating language whys because my french is shitty at best, while theirs is (of course) flawless. Makes me want to punch something.Grrr. I met some new french people also. Most of them were really nice. Although some of them you could just tell had that fake smile and laugh. After my first day I was really tired. Like, as soon as my head touches a pillow I'm out tired. I believe it was a mix of the time change and the enormity of having a new school, language and friends thrust upon me in such a short amount of time. Bleh.

As of my mental state now, I really miss my friends and my old school. I realise now how much I took them for granted. Even though I really miss them though the thing I want most right now is a nice warm hug. Who knew something so simple could be what I want most.

After my life is finished here

I will travel far and near

I will find faces and places to make my home

And I will make memories to call my own

I will cry in anguish and sorrow

But I will when the sun comes up tomorrow

I will love

laugh

and learn

And in the end I hope not to get burned

But I will not want to leave this life

As the cycle starts again
