The book is a dystopia and it will your mind blow away.

The story is written in first person manner, and the main character is Cassia. Cassia is 17 years old and grew up in a future society. In the society, you get matched with a partner who is compatible and have alike attributes.

When it's time for Cassia to get matched, she gets matched with her beat friend. This is really rare and she's is very happy about it! But when she gets the information about her match, there is a glitch in the system and there is another guy in the information.

The society is forcing the inhabitants to be in love with their match, and here is where all the drama begins. Cassia is not in love with here match Xander. Instead she have feelings for the guy who was on the glitch, Ky.

There is also a rule in the society that says if you are turn 80 yeas old are you not allowed to live anymore, and Cassias grandpa is 79 and is soon going to die. The grandpa also likes to write poems and there is a problem with that. The society have a limit for everything. Which means that only 100 poems, 100 movies and so on are allowed. And the grandpa is breaking the rules and gives his poems to Cassia who is hiding them. But one day is Cassia very afraid of being caught so she burns them.

Cassia finds this guy, Ky very interesting. So she spends a lot of time with him. The two of them read together among other things. The catch here is that Cassia has fallen in love with Ky. But the glitch in the system is getting fixed, so that Cassia will be matched with Xander again. Ky is going to be forced to live alone for the rest of his life.

Cassia works with sorting things, and she's great at it. So great that she gets promoted and gets offered to sort people! The job is to sort the top half of the sorters from the bottom half, based on efficiency. Although her new love, Ky, is right in the middle of the bunch she puts him in the top half. The top half will get a promotion to a better job and a higher place in the society. But what actually happens is that the top half, including Ky, is forced to go to war.

Both Cassia and Xander make it their mission to rescue Ky and the others from their brutal faith. What happens next is for you to find out, because in don't want to spoil the whole thing

A normal Swedish student started a journey in the dark and cold winter. Thirty seven days later it's spring in the air and the journeyhas to it's end. Through the journey a lot of things has happened and the student will enter the future with new experiences.

Yeah, probably you guessed right, of course the student is me. I will in this last post write about my thoughts, opinions and experiences from this novel and the act of reading it.

Let's start with the actual reading and understanding the novel. During my life I haven't read a lot of Englsih novels and in case of that I'm quite inexperienced. Despite this it has worked out really well and it has been natural to read in English.

The story itself is the second thing I want to bring up. If you have followed our summary-posts you have realised that it's basically a love story about Cassia and Ky. Overall it's a good story with nice characters and surroundings but for me it was a bit to much of love. In fact there was nog big actions in the novel except from the problems with Ky and Cassia's forbidden love and Ithink the story had improved with some more action.

In my first post I wrote about my interest in politics and how I hoped this novel would please that interest of mine. I have enjoyed to read about the society Cassia lives in. It's very different from the normal Swedish society. The officials decides and has an overwiew on everything you do. They decide what you eat, when you are supposed to have children and even when you die. The Society does all of this to make people feel better but in my opinion it contributes to the opposite. When we get to know Cassia she feels like she is in a box and someone else decides everything for you. I think this shows something about the humanity. We want to feel free and choose our lives by ourselves.

Now, when I am done with this journey, I feel pleased. It has been some good weeks of reading and I'm sure I have improved my English both when it comes to reading but also writing. Of course the disappointment of the story takes down the overall impression a few steps but I give this journey 7 out of 10 stars.  Thanks for following and I hope you have enjoyed to follow my journey through the novel "Matched".

Best regards.

Hello there!

I'm done with my next 90 pages now and my task now is to summarise what have happend during these pages. I wont go in on any details, just tell you a little bit of the bigger things that have happend.

So we now that Cassia got some poetry from her grandfather before he died, poetry that wasent legal. And Cassia was very taken by this poetry. But still she knew that she couldnt keep them for her self, she had to destroy it. She have been in the woods one day thinking about and reading the poetry. Then she decided to go back home. On her way home she noticed that everything wasent like it usally is. People waiting for the air buss was sad and just look down in the ground. And when she came closer to her house she saw an official car outside her house. Directly she tought that it had something to do with her poetry. She waited a long time before she went in. But after a while she decided to just go in.
When she opened the door Bram was right there. The officers and her parents was talking in the living room. She went up and changed clothes and then came down. She got told that her father have lost her grandfathers sample.

A sample is a thing that lets the official wake the deads up. So if they had grandfathers sample they could have make him alive again later. But now her father have lost it. The official was very mad att Cassias dad, and this wasent good for his dad. He could lose his job and he did get a mark in the register for being slovenly.

A day after Cassias Hiking leasons are cancel because of ther wether. So she decides to go to her father work and meet him. And to destroy  the poetry. While there she cant find here dad, so she destroys the poetry and goes home again. Later that day she meets her dad outside the house, they talk a little about what happend yesterday and Cassias father tells her that he destroyed the sample. He says that it was grandfather wish for him to do that.

These 90 pages ended with Cassia and Ky in the woods. Since Ky is from another society he can write. But in Cassias society you can only read. So Ky is teaching Cassia how to write by drawing letters in the ground with a stick.

This was all from me, see you soon!

Hi!

This week I have finished the novel and my mission is to summarise all the events between chapter 26 until the very end of the novel. A lot of things always happens in the end of a novel but I hope I will be able to give you a clear brief of these chapters without spoiling the very end of the story.

Like we all know by now Cassia and Ky have a story by their own because they meet everyday when they're hiking at the hill. They have talked a lot and they know eachother really well, both their history and their personality, and love is actually in the air. One day on the hill their lips meet and they both declare what they feel for eachother.

In preparation to Cassias future work position she gets a mission from the society to do a real-life sort. She sorts workerson a factory ,one of them is Ky, and place them into different groups depending on their skills. This mission will have a great impact on Ky's future.

Cassia decides that she has to tell Xander about her feelings, he is still her match. So she does and of course Xander becomes sad when he hears this from his beloved girl. Now Cassia has both lost her grandfather and soon her best friend Xander but still she doesn't want anything more than be with Ky and share her life together with him. This dream will however be ruined in a very short time.

One morning everyone in Cassia's neighbourhood wake up to a scream, the officials have arrived to take Ky with them. Cassia runs towards Ky to get a last touch or word from him but she gets stopped by an official and Ky is forever gone. They have to take one of their three tablets, the one erasing the last twelve hours from their mind. The officials forces everyone to do this, except from Cassia just to make her feel responsible for Ky's destiny. She knows they have taken Ky either because of her sort in the factory or because of the kiss on the hill.

Cassia and her family will be removed to the farmlands because of Cassia's acting, she has breaken a lot of rules as the Society can't accept. Still she can't think of anything more than being with Ky again. She talks with Xander about this once more and after all he still loves her and helps her. He describes how Ky's old artifact works, a compass which will show the way to Ky and the life Cassia wants to live.

The novel ends quite open for the story to continue and so it does with two sequels also written by Ally Condie, Crossed and Reached. Because of this I won't describe the whole ending, it's better for you to find out that by yourself. No spoilers here! I will end this summary with a quote which shows what real love can be like and it's picked from the kiss between Cassia and Ky on the hill.

"I think he might have meant to say something more, but when our lips touch, there is no need, for once, for any words at all."

I have read the first 90 pages now. The book is still a little bit messy, but i think that all will be a little clearer soon. My mission now is to find some hard words in the text and then to translate and explain them.
The word i have find are:

- Shimmers,  a shiny thing. Glittrar
- Fragile, breaks easy. Ömtålig
- Dissolves, like dissolving medicin in water. Upplösses
- Insignia, You are prud of your self. Tecken på värdighet
- Grinned, smiling because of something. Flina

This is the words i found a little bit hard to understand. I hope that you understood my explinations and that this have been helping you.
My next posts will come up soon.

Hello dear followers!

Some weeks have now passed and it's my turn to connect the story to real life. I will try my best to clarify what major roll the society plays in everyones life and after that connect it to our everyday living. Hope you'll enjoy.

Let's get started!. As I said in earlier posts the society control everyone and everything. They control how much you will train, what to eat and when to eat it. They even control your future work and how you will marry. In short, they control your life from the beginning to the end and always will be there to keep track on you. This makes me think of how a normal person would respond to this kind of situation. How would you manage it?.

In terms of how Cassia thinks and feels about the situation she lives in, makes you realize that she doesn't have any big problems or doubts about how the society control her and her enviornment. But after all she doesn't have anything to relate to, she doesn't know how trapped they really are.

Trying to connect this to real life you can just imagine yourself not be able to go out with your friends to party a friday night or not being able to sleep throughout a whole sunday. And it doesn't end there, the list is long. But I think the biggest mistake that the society make with their power is the forced marriages which means that they are totally in charge of who you will be forced to love. I peronally can't think of a worse thing to force a person to do. Love is one of those beautiful things and I believe we should be in control of our self. By these words I'm ending this post. Much love and take care of you until next time.

Stay Tuned.

Now I've read another ninety pages and I know almost the whole story of Cassia and her life. I still enjoy the novel but to be honest it's a bit to much of love and all kind of love-problems. I don't have a secret hate to love, absolutely not, but it had been really nice with some real action now and then.
Well, this post will mostly be about difficult words as I have read in the novel. If you read a word you don't understand you're often able to find out the meaning of it by reading the whole sentence but still it's good to know the actual meaning of a new difficult word you come across. I will first write the word itself, then an explanation in English and at last translate the word to Swedish.

1. Chime, when something (like a bell) sounds a lot, klämta.
2. Hushed, often a sound which is lower than usual, dämpad.
3. Grim, a face looking sad and hard, bister.
4. Retain, to keep something, behålla.
5. Veiled, something that is covered in some way, förtäckt.
6. Defiant, when you say against someone, trotsig.
7. Vocation, what you work with, yrke.
8. Branches, the thin things on a tree with leaves growing on it, grenar.
9. Uniformly, something develops like it always has done and like it should do, likformigt.
10. Prequel, a small taste of something bigger or an introduction, förhistoria.

This were ten words picked out by me, I hope some of them are new even for you and that you have learned something new by this.
I will end this post with a small quote from the novel, a quote showing what Cassias society is like.
"Where would it end, Cassia?" She says, her voice patient. "Would you say next that people should be able to choose how many children they have, and where they want to live? Or when they want to die?"
I had wanted to say that, let's see what Cassia makes out of this.

Hi!
Another week has passed and today I'm about to connect the novel and the story to real life. Until today we have read sixteen chapters and I will write specifically about the last eight. I will share some thoughts about forced marriages which Cassia experience and also some thoughts about love, a feeling which takes a lot of Cassias time.
Let's start with forced marriages. During men's history forced marriages always have been a natural part of matching two people in to a lifelong relationship. It's only the last decade some of us have been able to choose partners. Even if this part of choosing partner is basic for me it isn't for all youngsters in my age around the world. This really fascinates me, how are you able to live with a person your whole life without choosing the person?
Even if this is my opinion it obviously seems to work for a lot of people. Forced marriages often stays alive until death separates wife and husband. This amazes me and I think this prove that a marriage is much more than feelings. Cassia is a part of society with forced marriages and still it seems to work, a marriage is a decision more than feelings.
Secondly I want to write about just these feelings. Cassia is matched with Xander and they will marry each other. But still she has this emotional part left about how it should be with Xander through life and if another man had been better for her. Cassia has her eyes on another boy named Ky, maybe it isn't love but it's still some kind of feelings. This shows us, in some opposite to what I wrote earlier, that emotions is a huge part of Cassias and our lives. What kind of connections to real life has this? Well, we can learn that even if you are certain of who you will share your life with still the feelings are there and is a huge part of our thoughts.
To conclude this Cassia is a part of a forced marriage, a part of a decision, but still the emotions plays a big role in her life, something you, me and other humans around the world can recognise.

It is hard to connect this story to the real life. The society that they live in is pretty similar to communism but in a good and well thought out way. The society decide who they going to live with and what they are going to do and so on. But all the decision is good for the citizens and make them happy. So say that it is the same as communism is wrong but it is similar and in my opinion good if your political opinion is to the left. The society is also deciding when they are going to die. It might sounds like something terrible, but they are dying in the age of 80 that's because the science has shown that when you are 80 you have lived the ultimate life.

Every week during this reading-period we will publish a question or two based on the novel and then discuss that question here on our blog. Carl is first out and today's questions is:
What do you think about the Society where Cassia lives this far? Well, it's a future society but is it actually better than what we have today? Let's discuss!
