The last day of our 2017 roadtrip has arrived. We woke up feeling quite contempt and happy with the 22 days on the road, not to short nor to long. After checking out from our home for the night, Coloumbus Inn in North Beach in SF, and convinced the portier to keep both our luggage and car until 15:30, we strolled along the very charming North Beach to have breakfast at Ihop πŸ‘πŸ˜. With panncakes, scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon and hash browns in our stomach we started the adventures of today. The amigos wanted to visit some specific stores which happened to be on the other side of town at Market Street, so off we went on a loooong walk.

At 15:30 we picked up the car and luggage and stopped at a shoppingcenter on our way to the airport to get something to eat and to do some last minute shopping. You think girls are challenging, wait to you shop with the 3 amigos πŸ˜³πŸ˜‚. Now we have returned the car, checked in our luggage with only 1 suitcase had 5 kg more than supposed to (my suitcase and I havent shopped at all..? How did that happen?? πŸ™„πŸ˜±πŸ˜¬) but the other didn't weigh enough so it turned out well at the end πŸ‘. With 2 more hours before our flight to Copenhagen via Munich takes off, we have found a booth at my favourite Joe & The Juice. We are all happy and also a bit tired and we all look forward to slepp in our own beds tomorrow πŸ‘. These 3 weeks have been just as I thought ehen planning the tour. The boys and I had a fantastiic tour and we agreed to do it again, so here we cone - Australia & New Zealand Roadtrip Christmas 2019 πŸŽ‰πŸŽΆπŸΎ.

Over and out for this tine. Thank you for taking the time to follow us on our adventures ❀️😘

We stayed at Paradise motel in Lake Taho owned by Mrs Ling Xchouchi, a very nice little hotel close to the main street and the beach.

After a quick breakfast we typed the adress to my old friend from grammar school, Ulf Emanuelsson, who is Married to Bianco and lives in Patterson, 3 1/2 hours from Lake Taho. It was lovelly to meet Ulf after some 37 years, and it felt like yesterday. Great coffee break snd meeting in Pattersen πŸ‘πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ͺπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡©πŸ‡°

90 more minutes and we arrived at home the last night in US. I felt a bit "getting ill from the many shifts from very warm weather and cold aircon in the car and hotelrom" and when we arrived at the hotel Colombus Inn, i started to freeze so much I was clapping my teeth 😳. So now have had dressed myself on warm clothes, taken an asprin and crawled into bed, while the 3 amigos has hone out to get something to eat. I will try to sleep so I feel ok by tomorrow and the 15 hour long travel back home at 9pm. πŸ’ͺ

Day 20 we started with checking out from "Bates" Whispering Pines Motel - wohoo, we survived 😳πŸ’ͺ😬. Set the gps on Bodie, a ghost town 1 hour from June Lake. Bodie was a goldmining town where golddiggers from all the world came to ftom 1859 until 1940's when the last man left. At it's prime time 1877-1881 more than 8.000 people lived and worked in Bodie, but time, fires, earthquakes and harsh weather has destroyed much of the town where only 5% of the buildings remains. It was quite interesting to walk among the old ruined houses and listen to the park guide talking about Brodies glory days. It was a bit difficult to "see" all the 200 salons, jail, bank, school, miners, gun men and prostitutes who all lived here 130'ish years ago and today it us all empty.

After the historical lesson we started our trip to south Lake Taho. A lot of mountains in Sierra Nevada to climb and get down from, but after a few hour we got there. My first visit to Lake Taho, and to be honest it is a combination of a more posh Vegas & and youth campus. 😁. Music, bars and casinos everywhere πŸŽΆπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έβ˜€οΈ. One of the things on what to do was to go to sn american cinema, so tonight was the night and we saw Spiderman and topped it off with take-away pizza 😍. Tomorrow we will take a morning dip in our pool before having breakfast, coffe, juice and waffles πŸ‘πŸ˜¬. Heading towards our last night snd day in California for this time, we will visit an old school friend from highschool years, Ulf, who moved over here from Arentorp to work as a real trucker, any boys hot dream. The gps will be set for Ulf Emanuelsson in Patterson, 90 min outside Sacramento. It will be so fun to meet him snd his family after 35+ years πŸ‘πŸ˜¬πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ͺ

Despite the Moet last night we got up at 6.30 to drive the 3 hours to Yosemite Vallye. Mama drove and the 3 amigos snored πŸ˜‚. We had been warned about too many tourist in the Valley and in the beginning of the week people was stuck in trafic jams and when they finally manage to get down in the valley there were no parking spaces left and they just had to turn back. That us the reason we got up in the middle of the night, to make sure we got there before the crowds. The journey over the Tioga pass at 9.945 ft (3.300 mΓΆh) was breathtaking. We artived, got a parking space and walked towards Yosemite falls in a nice temp. 20 ish degrees. It is soo beautiful!! ❀️

The boys wanted us to follow the 3.5 miles (5 km) trail to the upper falls, so we went all in. I don't know whom I think I'm kidding, but after a very short distance and when people we met on their way back from the upperfalls, informed us that the trail goes only 1 direction UP and with very few areas with shadow, I had to tell the boys that their mum chickened out! No way I could make that walk without Yosemite rescuestaff having to pick me up by helicopter half way πŸ˜‚. The boys however wanted to give it a try so off they went. I thought a while how I could spend 4 hours in the park while they were climbing mountains and i decided to get back to Yosemite Village, where we parked the car, take a cup of coffee, get on their wifi and do the blogg for yesterday since I never had the time last night (read MOET 🍾🍾😁). I walked and walked and.... walked, without coming to the darn Village, but instead I passed the same waterfall 3 times. The temp has now reached close to 30c 😳. The savior was a text from Rasmus that him and Gustav had turned after 1/4 of the trail and they were on they way back. Victor however had decided to continue to the top. πŸ’ͺ. I managed to find the way back to the boys, bought 3 liters of water and waited for Victor who came back down after 3 hours. He made 3/4 of the way before he had emptied all his water 😱. All ended good, and we started our 3 hour journey back. Same procedure as in the morning. Mamma drives and the 3 amigos snored πŸ˜‚.

Dinner is eaten, the boys are trying to make their legs relax in the jacuzzi and I have to book rooms for our trip to Lake Tahoe tomorrow and our last night on this roadtrip, San Francisco. I have a feeling we all will sleep early and deep tonight. I'm exhausted β˜€οΈ

We woke up!! Without brain injuries from the heavily used air freshener πŸ˜‚ and started off with a breakfast at Silver Lake cafe which also is a minimarket, fishstore, and cafe. A true kinderegg πŸ‘. The cafe was old with stuffed salmons and old skies on the wall, but the food was both welltasting and ok in price.

Happy and full we moved on to the activity of the day - fishing and off we went to Eddies fish shop, rented fishpoles and a fishing licence gor 1 day, 14$. Down at the Lake June Marina we rented a boat and off the boys went onto the lake. It was obvious to any observer at shore that the 3 young men in the boat had very little experience in handling a motorboat, when they almost crashed with 2 other boats just trying to get out of the Marina. I thought for myself "OMG" this will not have a happy ending πŸ˜‚. I myself drove down to the nearby launderette to wash some clothes. With 35 c degrees and 3 young men the pile of clothes that needed to get clean was huge.

When I was done with my motherly shores I went down to the Marina and had an icecream while waiting for the boys to come back. I watched one tourist after the other come back, each with 10-30 trouts. Wohoo I thought to myself, the boys must have a party our there with all that fish. After 5 long hours, they showed up, doing the same stunt with crashing into boats again and with no fish. 0. Nada fish. Luckily they had enjoyed the day anyway and weren't that disapointed. However, what we didn't know is that the sun is soo much stronger at 2.000 m hight which we got proof on when we got home πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. Thank God for Aloe Vera aftersun πŸ‘

Hungry and tired after a day on the water we decided to have dinner at the restaurant across the street, Double Eagle Restaurant, and we had a great evening and delicious food and wine.

Back at our fancy hotelroom we met up with our new friends and neighboors at the hotel, Don, Sofia, DJ and Krystle, lovely young family from nothern california, and we finished of the bottle(s) 😁 of Moet we have had in our luggage since Cotona Del Mar. Very nice evening πŸ‘

Today started with Rasmus inviting us for breakfast to celebrate his 400 $ win at the casino πŸ‘πŸ˜. Before heading towards Yosomite and Lake June, we stopped by Premium Outlet North for some last shopping. The boys found what they were looking for so all happy faces in the car we started the 400 km long adventure driving from the hectic Vegas to the beautiful Yosomite and Whispering Pines at Lake June. The road was going straight out into nothing for at least 200 km, before we started to climb up the mountains to reach 8.000 feet, apx 2.100 m. Impressive and wonderful to drive through the Indian dessert, cowboy hills πŸ‘.

Despite the full dinner at Nobu last night and a full american breakfast this morning, the hunger reminded us to stop to eat. We were in the middle of nowhere so the choice was easy. We ended up at a real diner in Pine, called Country Kitchen snd the food was very good. Pine only have a population of 1.700 people and all the guests knew eachother. Very cosy 😁

After 90 minutes more driving and some altitude climbing we finally arrived at Lake June and our home for the next 3 days, the Whispering Pines Hotel. Beautiful surroundings but the hotel has had it's glory days some decades ago I'm afraid πŸ˜‚, but then again it is very difficult to compete with Ceasars Hotel, right? 😬. We have 2 twin beds that makes noices when you sit on it, image what it will sound when we sleep in them πŸ˜‚. We also have a wall to wall carpet, probebly from mid -80's. However we do have a little kitchen where the cupboard doors kind of are hanging in one bolt only and I am scared the whole lot will fall down if we smack the entrence door 😳. Bath and shower seems ok. To hotelowner has generouisly dumpet a WHOLE bottle of air freshner in our room before we came to greet us - I get a rendez vouz memory when I was 17 and drove in cars where they had a christmas tree hanging around the backmirror πŸ˜‚. I had to open all windows and door to try to get some pure mountain air in here or we will wake up tomorrow with severe headache and visual problems πŸ˜‚. BUT the view is stunning and we have a huge waterfall in our backyard which we will pursue to climb tomorrow, if we wake up ... πŸ˜‚

After a well deserved breakfast at The Grand Lux at Venetian Hotel this morning, we visited the Chanel shops and the gondoles at Venetian Hotel. Stunning as always and I was very pleased to show the amigos the sky that is painted but looks like real, and the real gondoles with Italien opera singing gondolairs. NOW, they belive me ;-)

I hought we were thinking "lean" when we decided to take a walk along the Las Vegas Blvd to the other end to Mandalay Bay, to pick up our tickets in good time to tonights show with Circ du soleil.

What we didn't think of was the temperature 40 c degrees, pavements crowded by tourist = snail speed, and 5 km away from our hotel. After 1 hour we got here, Gustav feeling noucious and I looked like I had fallen asleep 300 hours in the sun with my face. Lobster red is the new facial colour for me...haha. OMG!

Ayway, got there, got the tickets AND took a cab home, much easier ;-),

Back at Ceasars we went straight to the pool, ordered 2 Coronas and 2 coke and slipped into the pool. NICE!!

I was so hot that I am not kidding, the kids in the pool where I entered it thought I had serious bad stomach with all the bubbles that occured when very hot flesh met cool water ;-) ;-)

wuAfter repacking our luggade to make sure we have enough room for all our new clothes and stuff, which we did, we took a taxi back to Mandalay Bay and the Circ du soleil Michael Jackson ONE show. What a fantastic show!!

Both Rasmus and I amost had a uggly cry when they played the Kings music ;-) . Anyway, well worth the money!!

The show ended and we havde reserved table at NOUB rastaurant locatec back at Ceasars Palace so we rusched back in a cab. I must admit, the food we got was more than delicious, so if you have the chance ever to eat at Noub anywhere i the world, please go!

It is expensive but the food...OMG never had such good food ever!!.

Back in the room, packed and ready for the long trip to Yosomite tomorrow morning, tired with a full stomach. Maybe we will skip breakfast tomorrow morning? Right now I feel very full and with no need of food for days ;-)

We woke up to blue sky today which was hard to believe after last night nightmare weather. After a quick early breakfast we started our trip to Grand Canyon Skywalk, a 3 hour trip in no mans land. Impressive with the roads that just keeps going straight for miles after miles and no houses, just dessert...and cows ;-)

Finally we arrived and parked the car and brought with is a liter water, sunglasses and caps, ready for the wild adventure on the edge on Grand Canyon. There were shuttlebusses taking us to the skywalk platform and we were very excited as we boarded the bus. The bus 1st stop was the Havasupai Ranch (the indian tribe that runs business at rand Canyan West) where you could stand by an Indian and take your picture and by t-shirts. We passed that opportunity and stayed on the bus that continued to the Skywalk platform. Finally we could get off the bus and walk very close to the edge, there were guards keeping the crowd walking to close. The view was stunning! We were all speechless of the natures beauty, and we looked forward to get to walk on the horseshoe of glas that hangs out from the cliff and get some good pictures. At least that was we thought, but nope. We had to leave mobilephones and other cameras in a locker. Pictures was taken by tribemembers on the platform and we could buy them afterwards. That was a different way of doing business ;-)

After the normal tourist shop visits we returned to the parkingplace and started our tour towards the city of sin, Las Vegas. It was 40 c degres hot, but a/c in the car so it didn't take long until all 3 amigos slept like babies in the car. Not far from Vegas we passed Hoover Dam and I thought, after all my somewhat 10 visits to Vegas through work over all these years, attending conferences and I never took the time to visit Grand Canyon or Hoover Dam, now the time has come, I woke up the amigos and drove down the this impressive dam.

Next stop was some outlet shopping in Vegas and the boys found some shoes, swin trunks and t-shirts, but I must admit, the joy of shopping at Premium Outlet in Las Vegas some 10 years ago with prices halve of the prices at home, those days a definitely over. Not much bargains as it used to be. Finally we were on our way to our home away from home Ceasars Palace, and what a hotell. The amigost has lost their jaw more than one time tonight ;-). Had dinner at Panda Express, Gustavs suggestion, great chinese food.

Tomorrow we will enjoy a delicios breakfast, and lay by the pool all day, and tomorrow evening we will see Circe de Soleil's Michael Jackson show and to celebrate we have made dinner reservations at Restaurant Nobu..

After a wonderful day yesterday we woke up early, had a quick breakfast, packed our gear and off we went towards new adventures - The Dessert! We knew it was going to be very hot, but we could never imagine the feeling of steping out of the cool car into a hot hairdryer. 43 C degrees. We tried to get onto the well hidden secret Road 66, and we finally found it after have spent some time at the Route 66 museum. Nice history and a lot of old stuff from the gasstations that used to be located along the now ghost road Route 66.. The tour is beautiful but it feels you are the only humans left in the world or that we are driving on the moon. Weird feeling.

After we had driven for a few hours in the dessert with absolutely NOTHING around us, no houses or cities, no gas stations suddenly a whole city of an outlet center showed up not so far away from Barstow, and we just had to stop and shop a bit. The amigos found both Vans shoes, T-shirts and other nice things and after all that shopping we were hungry despite the heat, so we had lunch at In and out. Americans say that they serve the BEST burgers and I must agree. Very tasty, fresch and good tasting burgers, but I have to admit that the burgers at BΓΆgens outside AlingsΓ₯s in Sweden is a very close runner up ;-). we filled up the car and bought lots of water, before continuing our dessert travel. God forbid if we had a breakdown and got stuck in the middle of absolutely nowhere. with 43 c degrees (120F) ;-) Thankfully we made it to our hotel, Best Western Hotel in Needles without any accidents and thank god, they did have a pool. We just had to jump into it straight away when we arrived at 18 CET (6pm). However, the feeling of getting into a pool that probebly had body temperature and it felt cold, at the same time the wind worked as a very hot hair dryer, was a bit new for all of us.

Done with the cooling off in the pool we went over to Jucie Cafe nearby and had a good dinner, but when we got out after having been at the restraurant for apx 1 hour, the sky was black and it was lightening, still 43 c degrees and it blew half storm outside, and suddenly sand started to fly around and then the rain came. A really scary wheater situation, but we ran to our room and all 4 of us survived also this experience ;-)

Tomorrow we will try to get up early and rive to Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam before entering The Las Vegas strip and check into our home for the next 2 days. Ceasars Palace - here we come! ;-)

Our 13th day in the promised land started out with sleep in morning, breakfast and planning for a day on the sea. We were invited by my american family, The Greens, to spend a day sailing in Long Beach and BBQ and off we went. The GPS showed us to a different place than we aimed for but a quick phonecall to Alison we ended up on the right yacht club. Lovelly to see Alison again event though it was only 3 years ago. Over at the sailboat we met up with Joan whom I haven't seent since 1997, 20 years agon, and funny enough it didn't feel that long. Lovelly to be able to give both of them a big hug. The boat was prepared and ready for take of, so we hooped onboard and took off. We were so lucky with the weather, blue sky, sunshine and perfect wind for a day at the sea. Rasmus was lucky enough to stear the boat for a while. The first 15 minutes he was kind of stiff in both face and armes ;-), but after a while he relaxed a bit and did a good job of bringing us all safe over the water.

We had a short snack break out on the sea before heading back to harbour after a couple of hours on the sea. It was the first time sailing for the 2 youngest amigos so it was a very exciting and fun experience for all of us.

Back at sure, we unpacked the boat and made the boat ready, and then drove back home to Alisons house at 2nd Street In Long Beach for a BBQ. At the house we met with Jerry, the father, and June, Alisons Aunt with whom we stayed with for a week in Hawaii some 34 years ago. How wonderful it was to see both of them again. Alison had prepared a fantastic meal and we enjoyed both dinner and conversations through out the evening. It is funny though, how it can be with certain people in your life, you might not meet very ften, but when you do meet, it feels like yesterday. I am so grateful to have the Greens in my life. They made a huge difference in my life some 34 years ago and gad a big impact on my life and whom I am today. THANK YOU for taking so well care of us today, and I look forward to welcome you to Copenhagen and BrΓ€nnΓΆ next summer.

Back home in Corona Del Mar where we have started to pack our gear for our departure for Route 66 and Needles tomorrow.

New day = New Adventure.

Route 66 - Here we come!
