One of the places that I visited when I came to visit Georgetown this spring, was Souq Waqif. It's basically a large old-fashioned marketplace in Doha where they sell --- basically all kinds of stuff. Sweets, spices, food, appliances, etc (also they had this square where they sold a ton of birds and hedgehogs in small cages - didn't really seem legal but okay) (actually not okay at all when I think about it, that's animal cruelty) (okay gotta continue the post sorry I DO CARE).
Last weekend we had signed up for a trip there with housing, which means we don't have to pay for the trip there which is v convenient. I just wanted to share some snaps of this cool, very-not-scandinavian type place. By the way, I love housing. Apart from the fact that the dorms are amazing (sorry I will make a blogpost showing my room SOON), they always have activities going on. It's so nice to bond with everyone and to also get free food (tonight we had game night and pizza, like... I love this place). Anywho, here are some pictures from the souq.
Lovely Ngoc and Soojin unknowingly posed for these photos thanks HUNNIES
I feel like I need to give a general update on life as this has been the first week of classes. Essentially = I love it. I really, really do. I love it in a number of ways and I will try to express it as best I can.
-- Every single one of my professors are so dedicated. They are such intelligent and fascinating people and it is a true privilege to be one of their students - to be able to ask a real expert when I have questions.
-- All my classes interest me. All the readings have taught me something. I find new areas of interest - because they are put in a new perspective and I am susceptible for it, right here, right now. I just want to swallow all this new information and I want to keep it with me forever.
-- I am being challenged. In a way I've never been before. I need to make more than an effort - I need to push myself. In part to show my professors that I care and that I am dedicated, but more so to show myself that I am ready to give this opportunity everything I've got.
-- The university building. I absolutely love it. It RADIATES good energy. I don't mind being in school, I look forward to going there. I feel at home.
-- Each day I am surrounded by such talented, ambitious, caring, and fun people. They are very different from me, but at the same time they are very similar. For every day I feel like my horizons widen yet a little more.
I think this is it for now. Thank you for reading!
