Summer has really started (at least in Denmark) and it is now more important than ever to remember to apply sunscreen to your skin. It is important all year around but during the summer months the UVA and UVB rays are especially strong.

In our skin we have three different colored pigments. The red which are called haemoglobin, the yellow which are called carotene and the brown which are called melanin. The activity of these pigments defines our skin color. The more active your melanin is the darker skin complexion you have. This is the reason why people with darker skin complexion are more tolerant towards the sun. Although you are tolerant to the sun and do not get burnt easily, the UVA and UVB rays are dangerous and can result in solar damages and even skin cancer.

Melanin is produced by the cells called melanocytes. Once our skin is exposed to the sun the melanocytes form sort of a parachute over the skin so that it functions as a natural sunblock. The duration of this natural sunblock varies from person to person but in general I would say that it lasts up to twenty minutes. This is why it is always important to use a sunscreen which protects skin from both UVA and UVB rays when your skin is exposed to sun.

Using a sunscreen will not affect your absorption of vitamin D ✌

The duration of the SPF varies but as a rule of thumb I would advice to use SPF 30 or more. Say that your natural sunblock is twenty minutes you could be protected from the dangerous ultraviolet rays thirty times twenty minutes which would be ten hours. This is only hypothetically as the ultraviolet rays do most harm between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and vary from country to country.

You should check the UV index before spending too much time in the sun. If it is 0 to 2 exposure level is minimal, if it is 3 to 4 exposure level is low, 5 to 6 exposure level is moderate, 7 to 9 exposure level is high and if it is more than 10 exposure level is very high!

In the past I have not been caring too much about protecting my skin against the sun which I really regret now. Although my skin complexion is naturally quite dark I have some sun damages which I will never get rid of again πŸ˜’ When I apply my daily moisturizer, which unfortunately does not have high SPF, I mix it with the Derma Sun Block SPF 30 High Protection which I have linked to above πŸ‘† My daily moisturizer is this one, if you are interested 😜 When it comes to sunscreen I do not wish to spend a bunch of money as all I want it to do, is to protect me from the dangerous UVA and UVB rays. I have other skin care products which do that for me, lol 😁

Anyways, today I am spending a little time in the sun soaking up some vitamin D and starting to work on a tan in my garden. I do love when my skin is tanned but I make sure to obtain it cautiously 😜✌

To prep skin for a tan I always make sure to do a body peel/scrub first, I use this Moroccan method. After spending a few hours in the sun I make sure to moisturize well to prolong my tan. See my favorite body lotions here.

For dinner tonight I am having a sushi bowl. It tastes SO good and is packed with healthy ingredients πŸ’šπŸš last but not least, it is vegan!

This recipe is super easy and you can pretty much add in all the things you want. Tonight I added a mixture of brown rice, red lentils and basmati rice as my base but you can use any kind of rice you wish ✌

The greens I used this time were romaine salad, spring onion and avocado. I would have added a cucumber but I did not have any. After adding the greens to the rice I topped with some soy sauce, sesame seeds and sushi nori (seaweed in sheets). That is all you need 😁

Romaine contains loads of Vitamin A, C and K. Vitamin A and E are antioxidants which fight against the free radicals. Vitamin K has a big influence on some proteins ability to absorb calcium.

Spring onion contains sulphur which prevents fungal growth. Also, it is said to lower blood sugar levels.

Avocados are packed with healthy fats. It contains a lot of potassium which is a very important mineral to our bodies. Potassium should make sure to keep healthy blood pressure levels.

Sesame seeds are very high in protein. Protein is very important for building muscle and if you are vegan it is very important to eat protein rich foods as protein is often highest in meat.

Among other healthy things nori contains a lot of iodine. Iodine is often found in meat so if you are vegan it is important to make sure to get it from something else. You can buy iodized salt but nori is a healthier option 😜

Being vegan is still no problem for me. I do not miss meat or anything else coming from animals at all. Although, I do think it is complicated going out for dinner or eating at someone else house. I do not like being that complicated person who cannot eat whatever is served, lol.

Is Kourtney Kardashian not just the most bomb looking 38 year old mother of three or what?! If I can just look half as good as she does in 10 years, I will be very happy, lol

I honestly think she looks amazing but I do not think it is something which does not take any effort. As far as I can see on her social media accounts and on her app she works out pretty much everyday πŸ’ͺ

I have her app Kourtney but you can also visit her website here. I read it daily for inspiration.

Besides working out every day, her diet is both gluten and dairy free. On her app she will sometimes post some beauty secrets which I thought I would share with you. If you also think she looks amazing, steal some of her beauty secrets below 😜✌

She tells on her app that she and her sisters (Kim and Khloe) have been using vitamin E oil on their eyelids and lashes every night for years to condition and help the lashes grow longer.

Kourtney also says that she puts in flax oil in her morning smoothies which are full of fatty acids that are good for skin and hair.

On Kourtneys app and website she also mentions one beauty hack she has used since (around) age 14 which is sleeping with a silk pillowcase. (REALLY need to get me one of those ASAP!!) The silk helps prevent damaging your hair + it will not dry out skin like a cotton pillowcase will.

Kourtney says that she avoids washing her hair every day and every once in a while she will wash her hair with organic apple cider vinegar which will make your hair really shiny. Besides that she will add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to her water twice a day (I do that too so this one I have down, lol πŸ‘Š)

She will also use organic coconut oil as a body moisturizer after just pad drying skin after a bath. I believe I have read that she also uses coconut oil as an eye moisturizer in the night. Must try that one! 😁

Yes, Mamacita! πŸ‘ŒπŸ’ƒ

I am sure she has beauty treatments that we can only dream about affording too, lol. Anyways she looks so good and I get motivated to go to the gym and take good care of my body when I see her 😁

I also love some of the looks she has been wearing lately. I think that split from baby daddy, Scott did her good πŸ’

Thank you so much for reading and happy Sunday night!

In case you did not know, summer is coming, lol. That means it is about time to prep skin with loads of moisturizing, at least for me it does 😜 I just feel better about showing off my legs, arms etc when they are not completely dry, lol. Besides that it is very important to moisturize skin at night if you want your tan to last longer ✌ AND always wear SPF on your skin, both face and body, during the day.

I linked to some of my absolute favorite body lotions above. The ones from Rudolf Care and Excuviance I have not tried but only heard really good things about 😊 The one from Biotherm is probably my all time favorite, it is not very expensive, non sticky and moisturizes so well. Dove have really great products at VERY affordable prices and the one I linked to above is so cheap and really good, it is the one I am using at the moment. Coconut oil is always a great option for moisturizing skin, apply while still a little wet coming out of the shower. The one from L'Occitane is really great as well and the scent is so good. Palmer's is also really great and slightly thicker than the other options but also has a beautiful scent of chocolate, yummy lol πŸ’

Thank you so much for reading and have a lovely weekend!

Coconut oil has multiple uses. It can be used as a moisturizer, make up remover, teeth whitener, mouthwash and so on. It can obviously also be used for cooking which is what I am going to be talking about today. I will be listing a few health benefits of eating coconut oil below! 🌴

Coconut oil could help you burn more fat during a weight loss. The MCT (medium-chain triglycerides) have been shown to increase calorie burn (24 hours) by 5%.

The fatty acids and other breakdown materials in coconut oil can kill harmful micro organisms (bacteria, virus and fungus) which means that is good for preventing infections.

Coconut oil can also improve digestion as it helps the body absorbing fat-soluble vitamins, calcium and magnesium.

Besides that coconut oil can oftenbe replace butter when baking, frying and just in general when cooking. Coconut oil is just a healthier choice. If you would like to get all the health benefits out of your coconut oil you need the organic stuff, not that refined thing.

I have an addiction, lol. Even though I rarely put on make up I do love following a few beauty YouTubers. You know, just for inspiration whenever I will put on some make up 😁

I follow a few but my absolute favorites are Kathleen Lights, Carli Bybel, Teni Panosian and Sananas (French) πŸ‘Œalthough I do love watching their make up tutorials one thing bothers EVERY single time I watch them. THEY PUT ON SO MANY FREAKING LAYERS! It stresses me and I start feeling sorry for their skin, lol. If you are someone who does the same, I am sorry but it is REALLY bad for your skin!

I mean, first they will moisturize, then put primer on, then eyelid primer thing, then foundation, then concealer, then set the concealer with a powder, then set the foundation with a powder, then contour, then bronze and etc etc. You get where I am at. The whole time through I am thinking "STOP, your skin is suffocating" πŸ˜‚

Sometimes they do those "no make up, make up tutorial" and even with those they pile on product, lol. It makes no sence to me 😝

Personally I only use mineral make up on my skin so that it is able to breath when I wearing it. I would never use a primer myself but if you are someone who does, a mineral primer is to prefer. At least that is my opinion 😜 You can also go for a face cream which has high dimethicone containance.

I have linked to some mineral make up above but brands like Jane Iredale, Miild (new Danish brand) and The Body Shop have great mineral make up options as well πŸ‘Œ I even bought a mineral powder from the Sephora brand one time!

Read my post about how I remove my make up here.

I cheated on vegan life on Friday but it was honestly totally unintentional and I am so annoyed at myself! πŸ˜’ What happened was that I went to a Vietnamese restaurant and ordered noodle salad with veggie rolls so I obviously thought it would be all vegan. When I took a bite of the roll I realized it was puff pastry! I just thought to myself that I already took a bite so I might as well eat the whole lot, lol. After being halfway through the meal I also realize that they had put fish sauce on the salad, GREAT! Anyways, life goes on and I am back to being all vegan, lol ✌

I want to share a great tip with you below πŸ‘‡

After I decided going vegan for a month I found Alyssa also called Simply Quinoa on YouTube, find her channel here! She makes vegan AND gluten free meals that look so yummy and are really inspiring πŸ˜πŸ’š She also has a website where she puts up different recipes, find it here.

So if you are vegan or wish to try out some vegan recipes or even do a vegan month like me, I recommend you to visit her YouTube page and website ✌

By the way, two weeks of being vegan have gone by and it is honestly so easy (except from my little incident on Friday, lol) and I still do not miss anything coming from animals and I am feeling great! πŸ’ͺ

If you are someone who wears make up everyday I really hope you prioritize and remember to take it off your face every night. Going to bed with make up on can age your skin a lot and can lead to very bad breakouts.

As the skin in our eye area is sensitive it is important to choose a good eye make up remover which will not be harmful on the skin. Personally I use organic coconut oil to take off my make up (on the rare occasion I wear any, lol). What I do is just lightly put some on my skin and then rinse with cotton pads which have been damped in lukewarm water. It works perfectly fine and is not doing any harm on my skin. Afterwards I rinse skin twice with my daily cleansing gel which is this one to make sure all make up has come off! There are, unfortunately, no shortcuts when it comes to good skin care, lol.

I have used make up removers in the past which have left a burning feeling afterwards and have made my eyelids all red, itchy and dry. That is not what you wish to feel at any point so make sure to find a make up remover which is not harsh on your skin!

I would never use make up removing/facial wipes. They will never do the job good enough and to me they are just a waste of money 😏

Earlier today I went by my local Vietnamese store to buy some groceries for a vegan Vietnamese inspired dinner. For the people in Copenhagen that are interested in visiting the store it is on Frankrigsgade 14 on Amager 😜 They have loads of fresh herbs, vegetables and other Vietnamese and Asian goods.

I got some rice noodles, some rice paper, bean sprouts, mild basil and mint leaves. I already had cucumber, sweet chili sauce and peanut butter. I stirred some boiled water in the peanut butter to make it a little more thin so that it was easier to spread. With it I had some edamame beans with Himalaya salt for a little more protein πŸ’ͺ

It is also very nice with carrot sticks, slices of pineapple or mango and oyster sauce or some Nuoc Mam (fish sauce) with chili. In Vietnam they always serve it with coriander too so if you like that, feel free to add that too. I am not a big fan of coriander, lol.

What you do is wet the rice paper so it turns soft and then lay whatever you want to put in the spring roll on the rice paper, fold it over once, fold in the sides and then roll the rest of it tightly. It can be a little tricky in the beginning but is easy enough once you get used to it, lol.

I visited Vietnam twice but it is already six years ago since I visited last. I fell completely in love with Vietnam and am dreaming about returning there sometime in the future πŸ’ I thought I would include some old photos below #throwback ✌

I believe this was in Ho Chi Minh City πŸ‘‡

Visiting the Mekong Delta πŸ‘‡

A photo from the view at the local pool where we spent a lot of time during our stay in Hanoi, so beautiful! πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘‡

A photo from the beach in Nha Trang I think it was, lol.

...and last three photos of the yummy Vietnamese cuisine 😍

First photo is a Ca Phe Sua Da (iced coffee with yoghurt), second is Tra Da (iced green tea) and Pho (soup) and last a good mixture of different Vietnamese dishes, lol.

These photos are a little off but whatever, lol. The Vietnamese cuisine is SO good! πŸ‘Œ
