before departure

I have always loved movies and they have always inspired me. I mean if it was possible I would like to live in a movie but of course, it's not and I've just got to except that. I loved the idea of going to high school, especially after seeing High School Musical, and I wished that I had been born in the U.S so that I could attend High School. For maybe three or four years ago I realized that I could, and ever since I have wanted to become an exchange student. I talked about it with my friends and family but I don't think that they understood that I was serious. Maybe they thought that this was something I just wanted for the moment but didn't think that I, in the end, was gonna do it. But I was set on this and new that I really wanted this. I did research and looked up different organizations. The organization I got the most interested in was STS.

A few months ago, in the middle of summer break, I saw that you finally could apply if you wanted leave summer 2018. I told my parents and they really understood how much I wanted this so I sent in the application. A few days after I got a call from STS and we booked in a Skype interview that I was gonna have with a student who just had returned from an exchange year. The interview was in English and I was really nervous. It went well, though and afterward my parents and I got to ask her about her year abroad and stuff like that. After maybe a week I got an email which told me that I've been accepted to their program. I got to fill in twelve different documents about myself, they literally wanted to know everything and more so they can find me a host family.

Right now I'm in the prosses of getting a new passport so I'll get home after my year abroad. When that's done I think they're gonna start looking for a host family for me.

I'm so excited and I'm really looking forward to next year.

before departure

Hello!

My name is Julia and I am 15 years old. Next year I am going to leave Sweden for an exchange year in the US. I'm terrified but mostly excited. I really want to remember this experience in the future and that is why I created this blog, but also so I can update my friends and family back home. And yes, I'm writing in English because I know how annoying it is when you want to find just as much information as possible from other exchange students and then someone is writing or doing youtube videos in a lanuge you don't understand. And I just know that I really like reading about others experiences so why not write in english so people can read about mine.
