After good night sleep we woke up fresh and ready to see what Mykonos has to offer.
The weather was quite windy and I kind of wished it would not blow so much, but later on the trip I learned that the wind is the only thing that saves you from the extreme heat.
After getting some breakfast we wanted to go to the city and rent a car. Even though the streets are crazy here, we thought that the easiest to get to all the beaches and the city would be to rent a car. First we were thinking to rent a little scooter, but seeing the traffic made us change our mind. Everyones drives like it fits them, no real rules are used here, and we were told that as there is not enough police on the island many people drink and drive.
The hotel offered us to help with the car and around 12 we were owners of a little Cactus car. We took it first for one day, as we did not know how it will be to drive here.
We drove in the city as we wanted to see it in daylight and it was so worth it. So simple, so cozy and so breathtaking beautiful place.
After getting lost many times we finally found the famous Little Venice and Windmills, the wind was wild here and was little hard to take nice pictures, my hair was everywhere and the dress was flying in the air.
Then it was time for seeing the famous beaches here. We had heard that Elia beach was one of the nicest here, so we started with that one.
The beach was picture perfect, we rented a nice beach chair and got some beer and it felt like the vacation started for real.
The water was so clear and beautiful, yes, one million pictures of the beach were taken. And we spent a couple hours in the sun.
Before going home we wanted to see a little of the beach and the nature around it, so we took a little walk. Mykonos is a very gay friendly island, and as we learned Elia beach is that too, so the walk to the side of the beach made us discovered quite nude male scene and when walking in the cliffs next to the beach we saw some man walking completely naked, Adam decided that this was not the place we wanted to be at, and we started our trip to the hotel.
I was happy that he was driving, the streets are tight more like for one way and everyone drives very fast.
We wanted to see the sunset from the city, but we were so slow getting ready that it was one more beautiful one from the balcony. Nice to have the room with a sea view.
After that we went in the city and walked around, where I finally got myself a crêpe with nutella and strawberries, so delicious. Walking around and eating here was not the smartest idea, Adam tripped over something on the street and as I was looking more if he was okay than where my crêpe was, nutella got all over my dress, and of course that was the night when I wore a white dress. But we were on our way home, so not too many people noticed the mess.
When we got home, we decided that we wanted to keep the car for 3 more days as we wanted to see as much of Mykonos as possible.
Our plane left from Riga at 03:35 so we were not sure if we should sleep before the flight or try to stay awake. Ended up taking around one hour sleep after which Adam had to deal with a very tired and cranky girlfriend, but that went away after we got to the airport.
The first flight was late and we thought that we will miss the second flight because we had only 45 min between the flights and the first one was 20 min late, but it all went smooth. When we landed in Athens there was a man outside out plane who brought us to the gate for next flight. I had already imagined ourselves running around like crazy trying to find the right place and hoping that they haven't left without us. And then after a beautiful 20 min second flight we arrived in this amazing place.
Mykonos is such a beautiful place, the nature, white buildings, clear blue water and the sky create such a contrast that all together is a candy for the eye and makes me want to take one million pictures.
The stuff at the hotel is so friendly and so helpful and makes us feel like we are some kind of celebrities. But I was so happy that they carried the bags to the room as we live almost on the top of the hotel. And here it's just lots of stairs outside, no elevators or anything.
We spent around 3 hours by the pool trying to get some color, half sleeping, swimming and just enjoying the place.
Than after some shopping at a local food store and dinner at the restaurant we went up to the room to rest a little, ended up waking up 3 hours later, exactly when sun was going down, such a beautiful view.
Than it felt like we were little late for everything, as we wanted to go down to the city and have dinner, but quickly we learned that here 10 in the evening is not late at all. In the reception they said that that's perfect time for dinner here.
We took a walk trough the city, with small cozy streets, easy to get lost though, but beauty everywhere you look.
Ended up having great dinner by water at a super cozy place, enjoyed every minute of it.
Mykonos on windy day one has been nothing, but amazing.
