I’m finally back home and I’m really delighted. I’m going to get to see my friends and go to the school where I know what’s going on and best of all I’m going to be able to eat Swedish food again. I have no idea how long it has been since I’ve had a good steak. But anyways, the trip was great and I sure learned a lot about Canada and its culture. I would like to do another one of these trips but not to Canada again. I’ve had a blast and I have gotten a good feel for what its like living in another country.

I might write something if I go on another trip but until then, bye bye.

Its time once again for another winter break and it’s really relaxing to finally be done with school in Canada. Don’t get me wrong I’ve had a lot of fun here but I really missed my Swedish friends and the Swedish food. The Canadian food was a mix of food with French origins and food with British. A lot of bacon actually. For Christmas Canadian kids usually receive their Christmas presents on Christmas Eve just like in Sweden but sometimes they get one present on Christmas Eve and the rest on Christmas day like in America. We’re however going to celebrate like we do in Sweden. We are not going to any trips this break since we’re going to be packing because we’re leaving very soon. We’re moving December 31 and I’m probably going to write something when I get there.

Halloween in Canada and Halloween in Sweden are mostly the same but the Canadians don’t have a break from school during Halloween, which is celebrated on October 31 just like in Sweden. I didn’t go trick or treating but my brother did and brought back a lot of candy. Here they usually give you candy corn since candy is not sold in loose weight like in Sweden. There you can pick from a selection of different candies and they determine the price in weight. The trip to America was pretty boring. We didn’t really do anything special except that we went to Woodland Park a zoo there. The new school system is still pretty complicated but I’ve at least got the thing where you choose your own extra course. And I’ve also forgot to mention that the food is not free here. You have to bring your own food to school, which is kind of annoying since I forget a lot of stuff. I’d also like to add that these blogs are going to get much shorter like this one since I’m only going to be able to write about what I’ve done and not like major fact.

But I have one here. Canada has the same national anthem as Great Britain because Canada used to be a colony of Great Britain back in 1497.

March break!

Today the mid winter break just begun and it’s a relief to say the least. In Canada you don’t have many long breaks, instead you have many separate days for breaks. I have also forgotten to mention that the school day is much longer in Canada then in Sweden, which I don’t really find that annoying even though I get less free time. It’s interesting to speak English during the classes instead of Swedish, which makes it funnier. The school day ends about half past three compared to about half past two in Sweden. Oh and that hockey game was really boring to watch. There were barely any goals and the winning team only scored once. It was just one team getting the puck and passing it around until they lost it and the other team did the same thing. But Bruce seemed to enjoy it. He said that it was the thrill of one team always having the chance to score that made it so exiting. He asked me again if I wanted to go on another game tomorrow. But I thankfully declined and told him that I didn’t really enjoy the last game. But anyway, during the March break my family and I are going to go skiing. Not on the tiny hill besides the house but instead another real skiing resort. We are going to Blue Mountain in Toronto. It will take a few hours to get there but we have rented a car for a few days so we can go from the hotel room we’re going to rent to the skiing area. Even though it might be a little too hot for the snow to be really great I think we can make it work.

And now for the fact. Did you know that 22 % of the Canadian population speaks French, and 95 % of the population in Québec speaks French, and Ottawa is located just between Québec and Ontario. That must be why French is such a big part of the School like English for us In Sweden. Luckily I picked French as third language in School in Sweden so I know the basics.

What’s up!

I was definitely smart when I packed the winter clothes considering the fact that its like – 20°C or 68 °F like some of the old people would say. You see, Canada used to have the Fahrenheit temperature system but it was about forty years ago changed to the Celsius system. Anyway, we have discovered a very steep hill about one hundred meters from our house behind some old pine-trees over there. Maybe it’s not “that” steep but it works if you want to go skiing some day. We just have to buy a pair since we didn’t expect to have a hill just beside our house. I’ve also planned going to a hockey game with Bruce. He really likes sports especially hockey. Me myself I’m not really that into sports and hockey is no exception but I do it anyway to “be a good friend”. We are not eating any Canadian food when were not in school at least. Instead my parents cook what we usually eat in Sweden like different pasta dishes and a lot of meat. It tastes much better in my opinion.

Did you know that Canada is the eleventh largest country economically in the world right after Brazil and India.

Hello again

Today we were at the National gallery of Canada in the city, which is an art museum. There were many strange paintings, which you could expect from an art museum. We got a guide to follow around which made me notice that Canadians have a really funny way to pronounce the ou- sound like in words for example mouth and about. They say ou like au so it sounds like mauth and abaut. An example of a sentence the guide said where she used that sound was when she said “we’re about to see some of Alex Janviers painting when we enter this room”. Alex Janvier was a painter who has most of his paintings situated in the National gallery of Canada. I’ve also gained a friend in school over these few days. His name is Bruce and I really enjoy talking to him during the breaks.

And now for the fact. Did you know that Canada is a monarchy and the queens name is Elizabeth II.

Hi there

I’m sorry that it took so long to get the internet going. The trip went really well and I’m currenly sitting in my room writing this vlog. But anyways I’ve been going to school for a couple of weeks now and I’ve really been enjoying the school itself. My school does’nt require any sort of school unform but some schools i Canada do. I personally prefer it the way it is in my school but i dont think i really would mind school uniforms since i would not have to worry about what i would wear in the school. But the school is a bit harder in canada then in Sweden, not just because i always have to speak english it’s also that the school genarally is harder in Canada. I’ve not gained any very good friends yet but I’ve been getting some people to maybe talk to on some breaks. I hope that I’ll get to know some more about the country so i can tell you.

I’ve also decided to include one major fact att the end of every text like this one. Did you knwo that the population of Canada is 35,851,774 of which 82% live in Urban areas. So i guess that my family is one of the 18% that don’t.

Tomorrow we're moving to Ottawa in Canada for a whole year so we're going by plane so we're moving most of our belongings into hut in the woods. I'm going to go to the local school in the nearby village and I think it's going to be a really interesting adventure since I’m going to be able to experience another culture and and another climate as well as another school system. I’ve heard that it can be really cold in Canada so I’m definitely going to pack some winter clothes.

Ill probably write some more when we get the internet working there.
