So beautiful and patient, caring and with so much love for the people, the human race. But something came in the way. Fear, came in the way, fear of change, fear of knowledge and fear of development. With a party rising fast and hard expressing ignorance, bigotry and greed, and in all transparency they express fear, and fear is what will bring us all down. As Ghandi said, “the enemy is fear, we think it is hate, but it is fear”, and fear is the breeder to all of these characteristics.
And in the reportage made by The Guardian about the Sweden democrats rise, this “fear” is exactly what the Sweden democratic woman talks about when she is walking around in the immigrant neighbourhoods of Gothenburg. But why fear someone that is innocent and that came here fearing something way bigger than she ever can imagine. Sweden needs to wake up from this everyday fear of multiculturalism, multiculturalism is what always created our society. There is a reason why almost all of our holiday characteristics is hard to add up in a sense explanation of how they exist. That is why we all laugh at the comedian Johan Glans when he tries to make sense of all the traditions and symbols of Easter and how they are connected. The traditions and symbols is a mix from all over the world, multiculturalism is not a new thing on the rise recently. It is within all of us, within everything we do, from the music we listen to, the food we eat and even to the language we speak. How would the world be without these influences?
Just think about all the great things we got from other cultures: as potatoes and coffee from America, rice and oranges from the Arab empire, almost every dish we have on our Christmas table is based on ingredients from all over the world. Think about how America and Great Britain brought in the music industry to our society, allowing us to be one of the greatest music exporters in the world. Think about how all things in our society at sometime came to us through multiculturalism, and without multiculturalism we would still eat beats and drink beer as Vikings. The multiculturalism we experience today through immigration will create the future traditions and experiences of our children. Would you want to take that away from them?
How can there be a diffusion about how these innocent people will stand together with you, wanting to be a unit when the real terror hits our country and help you and probably give more to you than you could ever imagine. The person you are afraid of and want to send away, is the teacher that sacrificed himself for saving those children in Trollhättan, a real Swedish hero. Then I do understand that you are afraid, but not of them, but afraid of yourself, cause who is going to be there and save you when the terror hits you or your loved ones? Your fellow elite politician who does not want to be filthy or the Swedish citizen with a multicultural ancestry that sees the person in need before the filth next to him?
Sweden is supposed to stand for humanity, collaboration and safety, so to make it clear, that hero teacher is more Swedish than you most probably ever will be. If Sweden is the educated, forward country as we often want to imply, how can something as superficial as skin colour or religion count in a country where meritocracy and equality is the core of the society. Are we not more enlightened than that?
The world is in a crisis, where nationalism is about closing borders instead of letting national traditions prosper, be proud, and teach our new neighbours about them, be curious about their heritage and their traditions. The immigrants never asked us to stop all our Swedish traditions for them, they asked to join into them, and to be integrated within them. We should not complain about that people fleeing terror want to come to Sweden, we should be proud of it. Proud that they see Sweden as a safe house, with care, patience and understanding, proud that our country have an attractive system, but most of all proud that our country is somebody´s dream, a parent´s faith and a child´s last hope, and for that sake, we should never let them down. In their shoes, would you not choose the country that sounds the best?
The terror that the immigrants are fleeing from caught up to them, the terror that they thought they had escaped found them again. And the worst thing is that the terrorists wants us to turn against each other religions, because who is going to get the hate from the westerners… certainly not the terrorists themselves. The hate is going to fall on the innocent people that got away from them, the innocent people living among the westerners, leaving the terrorists satisfied, because now they do not need to come after the ones who escaped, the westerners are doing that for them. Do you really want to help terrorists spreading their hate in our society?
As Martin Luther King said “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that”. The importance of us standing together as one human kind is greater than ever, and Sweden, the founder of Nobel peace price needs to step up as an united nation who stands for peace and tolerance and lead by example. The world is a beautiful playground, let´s share it as equal as possible for as long as it let us, and we may be able to recover the damaged corners of our good reputation again. Ask yourselves: Do you really want to live in a country where there is no difference between skin colour, language, personality and thoughts? Would you walk in a flower field where every flower has the same shape and colour? Or would you prefer a field with variety? Isn't the beauty of flowers the difference between them?
Thanks in advance,
